Strategy and Planning 

• Lead Data Science and AI team in CIMB AI Labs (CAIL) and manage Big data analytics initiatives with Gen AI, data science, machine learning and analytical capabilities in alignment with CIMB strategy and business goals

   

• Spearhead Data Science & Big Data analytics for the region, leveraging state of the art algorithms to deliver value of big data to business.

• Identify opportunities for AI/ML-driven innovation across customer acquisition, retention, risk management, and operational efficiency.
• Advocate for data-driven decision-making by integrating analytics into strategic planning.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, particularly Generative AI (GenAI), for potential applications in the banking ecosystem.
• Create long-term roadmaps for analytics infrastructure and capabilities.

• Taking up additional roles & responsibilites of handling teams and Business units,outside the assigned roles , when needed (Handling Multiple Business units)

   

• Taking up roles and responsibities, outside the technical domain, for the smooth functioning of the subsidary, related to Audit, compliance/Risk Management, vendor mamagment, Business continuity etc.

   

   

Business and Performance and Management

• Challenge the existing business paradigm by developing analytics, Gen AI and ML models to solve problems from BU/BE including marketing, risk, fraud, operation, compliance and etc 

• Lead alternative credit scorecard initiatives to expand credit to non banking population and young professionals. 

• Lead data monetization initiatives to create new revenue streams for the bank. 

• Develop real-time next best offer, real-time merchant deals etc and personalise the products and services to the custmers based on their propensity and geo location

• Develop different Gen AI solutions to optimize the different business processes

• Create and implement predictive models for key business areas such as:

   - Customer segmentation and personalization

   - Risk management and credit scoring

   - Fraud detection and prevention

   - Marketing campaign optimization

   - Customer churn prediction

• Measure and communicate the ROI of analytics projects to stakeholders and leadership.
• Optimize processes for fraud detection, underwriting, credit scoring, and portfolio management through advanced analytics.
• Drive cost efficiencies through AI-powered process automation and intelligent decision systems.

Driving GenAI Initiatives

• Lead the adoption and integration of GenAI solutions for personalized customer interactions, intelligent chatbots, and content generation.
• Develop and deploy advanced language models for sentiment analysis, automated documentation, and predictive insights.
• Drive innovation by exploring creative applications of GenAI in areas like marketing, compliance automation, and virtual advisors.
• Educate stakeholders on the capabilities and limitations of GenAI, ensuring its ethical use in banking operations.

People Management

• Develop inhouse capability for Data science stream, train and reskill the existing resources.
• Lead a team of ~12  data scientists in CAIL, manage day to day projects, and mentor, coach and motivate team for high performance. 
• Work across the Region (Malaysia,Singapore,Indonesia and Thailand)  to champion and share Data Science best practice. 
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
• Manage resource allocation across projects to ensure timely delivery and optimal utilization.
• Partner with HR to identify, recruit, and retain top-tier data science talent.
• Establish a framework for knowledge sharing and upskilling within the organization

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensures all Group Consumer operations are in compliance with Group, local and regional regulations 

• Collaborate with legal, compliance, and audit teams to mitigate risks associated with model biases and fairness.
• Develop frameworks to ensure explainability, transparency, and accountability in AI/ML models.
• Regularly review and update model documentation in line with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications 

(Basic Degree/Diploma etc)

• Bachelor's Degree or Professional Qualification in the relevant discipline (Financial/Engineering/Computer Science/Actuarial Science/Statistics)

• At least 12 years of experience in data science / analytics development using machine learning, deep learning and Gen AI

Technical/Functional skills

• Demonstrated experience in applying and implementing machine learning techniques like   neural networks, SVM, recommender engines, deep learning algorithms etc
• Demonstrated experience in developing Gen AI solutions and Graph solutions
• Strong knowledge of common data science toolkits like tools like  R / Python. 
• Familiar in SQL and visualization tool such as Excel, QlikView and Tableau.
• Knowledge in Big Data Tools (e.g. Hive, Impala, Hadoop and Spark) is an added advantage.

Personal skills (Soft Competencies [Core/Leadership])

• Strong presentation and influencing skills, required in guiding and assisting teams in putting forward proposals for clients, whenever necessary
