Keep the race on track. Lead the maintenance and safety of the main racing surface during live racing season, supervising the track crew and operating specialized equipment. This hands-on role requires quick thinking and attention to detail to respond to changing track conditions and ensure a safe, high-quality racing surface. Tapeta experience is a plus.
During Presque Isle Downs’ live racing season, Candidate oversees the basic operations and maintenance of the main track for safety, bias and overall appearance. Candidate must be able to operate all track maintenance equipment. Supervises all track maintenance crew employees. Maintains all equipment related to track surface. Maintains track crew records. Maintains all records pertaining to the racing surface. Candidate must be able to maintain a safe track surface. Must be proactive and be able to react quickly to problems that may occur. Delegates tasks and duties to employees and contributes to the Racing Department team by overseeing and following through with all other duties as assigned. Preferably, Candidate will have experience with tapeta racing surface.
Track maintenance skills required, heavy equipment use, landscaping. Applicant must have welding experience, diesel knowledge and electrical knowledge. Candidate must have knowledge of operating tractors and a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the implements, used to maintain the racecourse.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATH ABILITY
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and PC’s are preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania Racing License.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
During live racing season, position will supervise the Track Maintenance Crew.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Vocational skills desired.
