About this role

The Product / Dimensional Casting Engineer supports the dimensional integrity, producibility, and product definition of turbine airfoil hardware manufactured using investment casting processes. This position focuses on airfoil geometry, tolerance interpretation, tooling interaction, and dimensional compliance across DS, SX, and EQ casting operations. The engineer partners closely with Manufacturing, Tooling, Quality, and Process Engineering to ensure hardware meets engineering requirements, resolve dimensional issues, support production flow, and drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with aerospace OEM standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Product & Dimensional Engineering

  • Own and maintain dimensional requirements for turbine airfoil castings throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Support part disposition decisions involving dimensional nonconformance.
  • Ensure dimensional conformance aligns with design intent and OEM requirements.

Casting & Manufacturing Support

  • Support DS, SX, and EQ turbine airfoil production from a product‑engineering perspective.
  • Partner with process engineers to understand casting behavior and dimensional drivers.
  • Assist with troubleshooting distortion, shrinkage, mismatch, and geometry deviations.
  • Support definition of inspection methods, measurement strategies, and acceptance criteria.

Tooling & Producibility

  • Participate in mold, die, and tooling design reviews to ensure dimensional robustness.
  • Evaluate tooling changes and assess impacts on geometry, tolerances, and producibility.
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and tooling qualification activities.
  • Contribute to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Support dimensional engineering deliverables for new turbine airfoil programs.
  • Participate in DFMEA and PFMEA activities as part of the NPI process.
  • Assist in transitioning new designs from development to production.
  • Conduct drawing reviews, tolerance analysis, and producibility assessments.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support root cause analysis of dimensional defects using structured problem‑solving tools.
  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support internal and customer audits when required.
  • Apply basic SPC and statistical tools to monitor dimensional trends and stability.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Manufacturing, Quality, Tooling, NDT, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Support customer technical reviews and dimensional investigations.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly and professionally.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, investment casting, or turbine component production.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Understanding of investment casting processes and dimensional behavior.
  • Experience supporting production operations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with solid analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective cross‑functional communication and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
