Primary function:
The Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT II must demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Job duties include, but not limited to, performing and accurately recording vital signs, accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients. In addition to the PCT duties, the PCT II position requires the execution of clerical duties to help support the nursing staff and patients. PCTs are an essential part of the nursing care team with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
· Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
· Performs assigned duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
· Responds to patient crisis situation and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
· Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
· Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.
· Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) experiencing a psychiatric crisis, suicidal/homicidal ideation under the order of a physician in Power chart.
· Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) at risk for safety based on nursing assessment and order in Power chart.
· Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.
· Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
· Completes required in-service education.
· Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
· Safely transport patients to/from hospital rooms, including assistance with ambulation
· Performs other related duties as required.
Education and experience requirements:
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs. Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
· American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute/Military Training Network/National Safety Council -Current BLS Certification is required.
· 2 years clerical or related experience preferred.
Hourly Pay Range: $19.10 - $27.69This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
