Job Details

ChristianaCare is seeking a dedicated and service‑focused Patient Escort Supervisor to lead and support our Patient Escort Services team during the overnight shift. In this role, you will oversee patient and materials transport operations, ensure timely and safe service delivery, and provide leadership to departmental staff. This position plays a key part in maintaining smooth hospital flow, patient experience, and staff coordination.

Location: Christiana Hospital – Newark Campus
Status: Full-Time
Shift: Overnight, 11:00PM-7:30AM
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday (off hours as needed)
Requirements: Every other holiday rotation

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate overnight Patient Escort Services operations and staff, with emphasis on dispatch activities.
  • Perform dispatch functions, including receiving and prioritizing transport and errand requests via computer or written logs, and dispatching personnel through radio or pager.
  • Utilize patient treatment schedules alongside on-demand requests to efficiently allocate staff for transports.
  • Assess incoming requests to ensure tasks are handled efficiently and safely based on available staffing and workflow.
  • Assist in developing work schedules, assigning duties, monitoring performance, and ensuring completion of tasks.
  • Train, orient, coach, and participate in performance evaluations and discipline of assigned staff.
  • Monitor and adjust staffing patterns to meet changing workload demands.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to daily activities, performance, maintenance, incidents, and departmental reports.
  • Ensure safety compliance, identifying and addressing unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain equipment oversight, including monitoring usage, ensuring maintenance, and tracking equipment records.
  • Maintain positive communication with staff, patients, and hospital departments to support exceptional service delivery.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries, concerns, and departmental needs.
  • Support compliance with all State, Federal, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a role model and uphold ChristianaCare’s Core Values in all interactions.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in patient transport or related healthcare field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of patient/materials transportation methods and related equipment.
  • Proficiency in dispatch and scheduling functions.
  • Strong leadership skills, including delegation, supervision, and staff development.
  • Ability to problem-solve and recommend effective operational solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities and maintain positive relationships.
  • Proficiency in radio, phone, paging, and basic computer applications.
  • Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Basic math and keyboarding proficiency.

Special Requirements

  • Must pass back evaluation examination.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Frequent sitting with intermittent walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting, lowering, bending, or crouching, sometimes involving considerable weight.
  • Exposure to noise, frequent communication through headsets, and fast‑paced environments.
  • Occasional exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and blood/body fluids.

Hourly Pay Range: $22.29 - $33.44

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
