The Laboratory Services Department is hiring! We are searching for a Cytotechnologist to work at our Christiana campus location on the day shift. Hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No weekend hours.

In this role, the Cytotechnologist will perform cytologic procedures and microscopic examinations on tissue specimens and body fluids to provide physicians with information to aid in diagnosing and treating patients.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Examines gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens microscopically according to established protocol.

  • Is responsible for recording the slide interpretation results of each case examined or reviewed; for each 24-hour period, the total number of slides examined or reviewed in all laboratories; and the number of hours spent examining slides in each 24-hour period.

  • Assists in obtaining and assessing adequacy of fine needle aspirations.

  • Prepares non-gynecologic specimens by smear techniques, cytocentrifugation or filtration according to standard procedure.

  • Prepares and maintains chemical reagents and stains.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of location, operation, and maintenance of equipment.

  • Communicates results of testing to nursing units, physicians, and other authorized individuals.

  • Actively participates in quality control program.

  • Follows all CCHS and laboratory safety policies.

  • Reviews laboratory safety manual annually.

  • Works cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers and maintains a good rapport with other departments.

  • Answers the telephone courteously and promptly.

  • Attends departmental Inservice meetings as required.

  • Assists with training of new employees and students.

Education and experience requirements:

  • B.S. in Cytotechnology or

  • B.S. in the Sciences and Certificate in Cytotechnology

  • One year experience preferred

Hourly Pay Range: $38.22 - $61.16

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
