Compensation: $13.85 per hour with eligibility for tips
Summary: The Prep Cook is a fundamental part of the kitchen’s operations. They inventory, evaluate, and organize the kitchen ingredients and items to prepare the Café Associates for success in all scenarios. They must be quality control experts to deliver a shining standard for all our products to ensure all guests are receiving the best possible product when we deliver them their food and beverages that they prepare. Prep Cooks may also help with catering, school lunches, and other projects at a large scale as the café matures into a proper establishment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Take daily inventory of produce and ordering to ensure proper item freshness
· Follow food safety and FIFO protocols
· Safely prepare and organize produce for Associates using sharp and/or hot equipment
· Prepare meals when staffing is low or occupied to help with the flow of sales
· Meet Department Revenue Goals
· Operate espresso machine, tea brewer, and milk frother
· Refresh café dining room by wiping tables, sweeping floors, and removing waste
· Clean and disinfect back-of-house café equipment
· Communicate positively and professionally to co-workers at all levels of the organization
· Stay up to date on museum policies, exhibits, and events

· Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education/Training/Experience:
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· High School graduate or GED
· Minimum 1 year of line cook, prep cook, or kitchen experience preferred
· Must meet requirements of employment background check
· Must have / obtain Food Handlers Card
Language Skills: Ability to call and respond effectively with kitchen callouts. Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable.
Mathematical Skills: Literacy in numbers, ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts as well as basic mathematic skills (subtraction, multiplication, division).
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills and kitchen display systems; becoming efficient in Square through training and usage to successfully meet departmental responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain standing at a workstation for up to 8 hours and must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English). The employee must be able to see well and able read fine print. This job also requires lifting up to 50 pounds, lifting and removing things from elevated spaces, and lifting potentially unbalanced containers (either due to liquid or lopsided packaging). Must be able to reliably use knives and kitchen utensils to prepare food without risk of injury.
Environmental Requirements:
Must be able to work in a well-lit, temperature-controlled work area. May also be exposed to extreme weather conditions with constant ambient noise levels. Must be able to work in an open area with other employees. Employee must adhere to current company and CDC pandemic related guidelines.
