A Brief Overview
The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient centered, specialized, evidence based care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. APP's are board-certified providers that assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Nebraska state statues, administrative code and organization bylaws. The APP is committed to a culture of clinical excellence, respect, innovation, and academic inquiry through collaborative practice with all members of the care delivery team. Will function as a member of the surgical team to provide appropriate medical care to surgical patients; providing surgical assistance to the surgeon; and collaborating with hospital staff members, outside physicians and patient families.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for providing safe, comprehensive and compassionate clinical care. ◦ Assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes. ◦ Seeks and integrates the perspectives of interprofessional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care. • Preforms diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions. • Applies evidence-based medicine pertinent to neonatal/pediatric populations. • Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability. • Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and to improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams and developing programs. • Constant consideration of child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education and support. • Demonstrate understanding of internal and external rules, regulations and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification and billing compliance. • Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed. Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills. • Serves as an advocate for the needs of the children and their families across the health care continuum ensuring the best patient/family experience possible. Assist the surgeon in the operating room, first and second assist-at-surgery; perform surgical procedures as directed by the surgeon. • Responsible to take after-hours call on a rotation basis. Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the Physician Assistant program Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Physician Assistant Preferred and
  • Previous experience as surgical first assist Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Advanced Practice Provider, required to be credentialed.
  • Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.
  • Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
  • Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age and adolescent patients
  • Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

Licenses and Certifications

  • PA - Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska Upon Hire Required and
  • PA-C - Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Upon Hire Required and
  • BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and
  • DEA License within 30 Days Required
  • Takes call per division expectations Required
