About the Laboratory

The Chan Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong interest in perinatal and pediatric epidemiology. The postdoctoral fellow will engage in cutting-edge research focused on surveillance and risk prediction, neonatal infections and antimicrobial resistance, and the design and testing of interventions to improve maternal and child health outcomes. This position offers an excellent opportunity to further develop expertise in data analysis, drafting manuscripts for publication, grant writing, and conducting research projects, while contributing to high-impact global health initiatives. Our lab’s diverse portfolio spans multi-country clinical trials, large epidemiological cohort studies, and innovations in technology and data science.

  • Analyze datasets to address research questions and contribute to co-authoring manuscripts
  • Lead and support data management activities, including data cleaning, analysis, and sharing
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and partners on projects, including developing study protocols, obtaining IRB approvals, and implementing research activities
  • Contribute to grant writing, preparation of technical reports, and dissemination of research findings

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal, written, visualization and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in STATA or R, with evidence of clear coding skills with detailed annotation
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a culturally diverse and international team
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Two or more years of technical expertise and project management skills in conducting research studies

  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and excellent time management, with meticulous and consistent follow-through of projects are requiredProblem-solving mindset and a goal-oriented work ethic

  • Experience working with institutional review boards, regulatory bodies, and academic and governmental institutions

Responsibilities 

  • Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data. 

  • Conduct independent scholarly research, developing new methods and protocols under the guidance of a mentor (principal investigator). 

  • Acquire technical, lab management, and grant writing skills. 

  • Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, national presentations, and professional workshops. 

  • Supervise junior lab members. 

  • Assist with other research projects as needed. 

 

Education 

  • Required: Doctorate 

  • Preferred: Doctoral degree in epidemiology, statistics, data science, or a related field

SALARY RANGE:

$20,800.00 - $110,400.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
