A Brief Overview

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking multiple telephone triage nurses for their Office Hours team. The shift will be dependent upon the operational need.

This application yields the following openings:

  • One opening at 26 hours per week
  • Two openings at 20 hours per week

Primary Care, telephone triage and/or Barton Schmitt telephone triage protocol experience is preferred.

Practices at the level of a competent to proficient practitioner of nursing. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in Telehealth nursing. In addition, demonstrates clinical leadership skills through contribution to standards of care and unit goals. Serves as a role model for other staff and a preceptor for new employees and participates in endeavors to increase nursing knowledge. The nurse must demonstrate competence in caring for patients with a wide variety of health issues. He/She assists the Manager with administrative issues which affect the clinical practices within the office as well as comply with the administrative policies and clinical protocols as outlined in policy and procedure manual. Administratively responsible to the Manager and Ambulatory Nursing Director for nursing practice issues.

  • Follows the Nursing Process and to deliver safe telephone triage care: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Collects and synthesizes complex assessment data and uses critical thinking skills to best determine most appropriate protocol and disposition
  • Develops a plan of care
  • Communicates and collaborates with families/caregivers on plan of care and ensures understanding and compliance
  • Documentation reflects all aspects of telephone encounters
  • Collaborates with the PCP and other healthcare providers as necessary
  • Professionalism/Leadership
  • Role models appearance and behaviors that promote a positive image of Nursing.
  • Role models how to interact with parents/patients and colleagues with respect and dignity.
  • Role models professionalism and teamwork
  • Facilitates and promotes change in the unit environment.
  • Leads unit improvements and measures outcomes.
  • Assures that staff incorporates professional standards of practice and regulatory requirements into nursing care provided.
  • Follows hospital policies regarding HIPPA and privacy as applicable to the home office
  • Research
  • Reads, analyzes and synthesizes nursing and other scholarly articles and research studies; shares knowledge with unit staff in a formal format.
  • With assistance applies research findings to clinical practice.
  • Seeks opportunities to participate in research studies or answer simple research question.
  • Learning
  • Identifies learning needs of self and others and assists in the development of a learning plan.
  • Applies education and training from departmental in-services and external sources to enhance Nursing practice.
  • Assist in developing and utilizes patient education materials relevant to patient population
  • Participates in development/ presentation of staff education programs geared to meet unit and select departmental needs.
  • Demonstrates health care informatics competency in order to manage patient care
  • Information literacy, including the effective use of the intranet and internet to find electronic resources for patient care, nursing practice and evidence-based decision-making;
  • Information management skills, including the effective use of the electronic health record and clinical information systems, the ability to collect clinical data using quality tools and the ability to discuss, evaluate and analyze outcome data presented in charts and tables.
  • Resource Management
  • Participates in promoting quality, efficient and cost effective care.
  • Monitors own usage of supplies and equipment/identify opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations.
  • Manages own time to accomplish direct/indirect care in a cost efficient manner.

Education Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years registered nursing experience Required
  • Experience in pediatrics, telephone triage, use of Barton Schmitt Telephone Triage Protocols Preferred

  • Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports).
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Skype).

  • Ability to locate and review specific patient data in variousclinical information systems.

  • Understands policies and procedures, confidentiality, security, and privacy regulations regarding the use of clinical information systems.
  • Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Registered Nurse (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required

$39.26 - $50.06 Hourly
