Job Description

Ensures that patient requests and nutritional needs are met, that the cafeteria is set up on time, and that department and Joint Commission standards are upheld in support of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s mission, vision, and values. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

  • 5 years of experience in a cafeteria, catering, or hospital food service setting
  • 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity

  • NA

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or five years of equivalent experience

Certification Summary

  • ServSafe within six months of employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge of guest relations, supervisory/leadership skills, and teamwork
  • Broad knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods and local food service sanitation codes and practices when dealing with equipment, food supplies, food handling, physical plant, and personnel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and service provided.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs all activities of food service staff.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules and covers for unexpected staffing shortages.
  • Conducts timely evaluations for all food service staff.
  • Manages orientation for all new employees and provides in-service as assigned.
  • Oversees the patient tray line and cafe services, including timeliness of set-up and delivery, speed of tray set-up and delivery, quality of food, accuracy of menus and trays, food presentation, food temperature maintenance, portion control for all menu items, food handling and techniques, and prices.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the staff, including but not limited to: work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  • Take an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  • Assist manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
