Job Description

Assists in providing competent patient care to endoscopy patients and families whose healthcare needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and rapidly changing. Demonstrates technical, organizational, clinical, and team skills. Proactively supports efforts and processes that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

  • 1 year of experience as a gastrointestinal lab technician or surgical technologist or 2 years of experience in an operating room/gastrointestinal setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment
  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists in ongoing process of healthcare delivery to surgical services patients and parents, incorporating age-related and developmental-specific requirements.
  • Provides technical skills assistance to physician or nurse in operating endoscopy equipment and other related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Orders and maintains necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans scopes and washers and maintains quality controls for equipment and water supply.
  • Calibrates machines and equipment necessary for testing and identifies equipment problems and troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills in providing care to patients and families and assists in collaborative practice with healthcare team as necessary.
  • Demonstrates cost effectiveness and efficiency with regard to time management.
  • Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
  • Supports Joint Commission readiness.
