Chiesi Global Rare Diseases

Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is a Chiesi Group’s business unit established in February 2020 and focused on research, development and commercialization of treatments and patient support services for rare and ultra-rare disorders, many of whom have limited or no treatments available.

This unit is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with a strong synergy with the headquarters in Parma. 

Rare unit has a focus on research and product development for lysosomal storage diseases, rare hematology, ophthalmology disorders and rare immunodeficiencies. The unit is also a dedicated partner with global leaders in scientific research, patient advocacy and care. Discover more here.

 

What we are looking for

Purpose

The role assures that translational & precision medicine milestones and principles are implemented into the clinical development plans

The role leads translational & precision medicine studies within development programs incorporating quality, pharmacodynamics, bioinformatics, and bioanalytical analyses

The role acts as the resident translational medicine expert within GRD Clinical Development for specific disease indications, building the GRD Clinical Development competencies, relative to all medical/scientific aspects and acting as clinical interface with the preclinical experts/representatives to steer translational medicine science across the R&D  

Main Responsibilities

  • Represents the Product(s) Clinical Expertise for translational & precision medicine matters for specific disease indications inside and outside the company  
  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert in the area of translational & precision medicine for specific disease indications, maintaining and enhancing knowledge in relevant therapeutic or technical matters 
  • Represents GRD Clinical Development and R&D for regulatory & scientific interactions, patient registries, biomarker consortia, workshops for translational & precision medicine matters 
  • Supports the Clinical Evaluation of external opportunities considering Chiesi’s in-licensing strategy, in collaboration with other members of the Clinical team as well as  
  • Liaises with the pre-clinical experts to steer translational & precision medicine science across the R&D 
  • Designs and leads the implementation of feasibility/exploratory studies in humans to validate new technologies to be implemented in clinical programs for translational assets when needed, and leads the development and implementation of bioanalytical and bioinformatics studies to understand the mechanisms of action of drugs by multi-dimensional–omics data generation 
  • Designs and leads the development of studies aimed to identify and validate biomarkers for clinical studies endpoint as well as for patient stratification, through integrated analysis of high-throughput molecular data and clinical phenotypes 
  • Designs and leads the implementation of studies aimed to generate new hypotheses from multi-platform and diverse datasets by employing data science and computational biology approaches 
  • Builds relationships with scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners and scientific networks to develop specific hypothesis-driven collaborations to complement internal effort 

Experience Required

5+ years of experience in industry are required, specifically in clinical development, translational research or related fields 

Relevant experience in clinical or academic research in rare diseases and/or advanced therapeutics will be considered a plus 

Education

MD or equivalent with experience in clinical research or PhD in biomedical science are required 

PharmD or Master’s Degree, with long-standing, relevant experience to the role, may be considered as well
