SUPERVISOR:
Manager or designee. 

SUMMARY:  
Development and maintenance of route packages to include Special Education routes, programs, and school projects. Routing and scheduling of route segments and field/activity trips in accordance with established laws, policies and procedures. Resolves problems with routes and bus stop locations. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Develops and implements new transportation and scheduling methods, including route development for regular and Special Education. Routes must conform to state and federal laws and regulations.
2. Coordinates all aspects of field trips including scheduling, assigning, awarding, and billing for both the District and contracted transportation.
3. Coordinates and schedules facility shuttles.
4. Processes and approves/disapproves space available requests.
5. Ongoing telephone communication with all transportation, administration, school personnel and community members.
6. Monitors and maintains route changes. Computes package times.
7. Identifies, evaluates and resolves route planning problems and concerns with drivers, assistants, students, parents, schools, administration and community.
8. Researches school times, boundaries, walking distances, services and costs. Develops alternate methods of transportation for out-of-district and non-required programs. Compiles and presents reports and projects to Board of Education, administrators, supervisors, principals and other transportation staff.
9. Utilizes and trains individuals on specialized software programs to compile departmental forms, detailed maps, graphics and other routing paperwork.
10. Supervises, coordinates and provides ongoing training and evaluation of route planning with bus drivers and bus assistant.
11. Represents the district at meetings, conferences, and seminars. Meets with personnel from other transportation departments nationally and within the state for problem solving, coordination and implementation of new rules and regulations.
12. Fills in as acting Route Manager during the Route Manager's absence.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

14. Provides problem-solving assistance to less experienced employees.
15. Schedules and assigns work.
16. Sets work direction and reviews similar work.
17. Training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. High school or equivalent.
2. Knowledge of Special Education rules and regulations.
3. Knowledge of state and federal laws.
4. Communication skills.
5. Detail oriented.
6. Working knowledge of maps, to include computerized versions.
7. Balance figures/statistical analysis.
8. Operate specialized software.
9. Typing/ten key/general office skills.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 2 to 5 years in ground management or complex scheduling/route management experience.
2. Previous experience as a School Bus Driver desirable.

1. Occasional bending, reaching, climbing.
