About this role

The Youth Activities Intern will work with the Director of Youth Activities, the Youth Activities Manager, & Youth Activities Counselor Team, supporting various tasks related to youth programming at the Club. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with event set-up, implementation, and clean-up; supporting weekly summer camp and swim team operations; and providing childcare services in our state-of-the-art facility "The Treehouse." The intern will also be responsible for preparing, leading, and supervising age-appropriate activities that foster positive social interactions among children, all while adhering to health and safety protocols. In addition to hands-on experience, interns participate in a structured professional development program that includes department rotations, one-on-one check-ins with leadership, and skill development workshops. This is a CMAA Verified Internship Program (VIP).

 

Hours:

  • The Youth Activities Internship opportunity is a seasonal, non-exempt position. This internship starts mid-May and is expected to continue through August 10th. Option for continued employment after the internship ends can be discussed per the Director of Youth Activities based on business needs, performance, and open position requirements.
  • Youth Activities Interns generally work five days a week, with flexible scheduling Monday through Sunday, including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for operations. The weekly work schedule is subject to change based on business needs. Availability on evenings, holidays, and weekends is expected of all staff. Must be available 40 hours a week.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures knowledge of club policies and procedures as it refers to the Youth department.
  • Ensures knowledge of all safety and first aid protocol procedures, and proactive in preventing accidents.
  • Assists in planning age-appropriate activities and events for children and families.
  • Greets children and parents by name, in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Communicates with parents at drop-off and pick-up regarding needs and preferences specific to their children.
  • Interacts with children in a friendly manner by playing games, teaching skills, etc.
  • Assists with set-up and decoration of all youth related events.
  • Handles and properly cares for all event and childcare center materials, with proper storage after use.
  • Leads and supervises play and activities during youth events and child-watch center.
  • Assists with diaper changes, bathroom monitoring, meals, and snacks.
  • Recommends new ideas for toys, programs, supplies and promotions.
  • Completes opening and closing duties to ensure a clean and safe work area in the child-watch center.
  • Resolves disputes between children when necessary.
  • Disciplines using verbal redirection, physical removal, and time out as appropriate.
  • Communicates with and informs immediate supervisors of any unforeseen circumstances and reacts appropriately.
  • Assists with lunch/dinner service as it relates to youth events or activities.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Exhibits proper phone etiquette.
  • Attend all department staff meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in rotational shifts across club departments, including banquets, food & beverage, culinary, event planning, and more.
  • Attend scheduled check-ins with managers throughout the internship to discuss progress, development goals, and overall growth.
  • Engage in professional development activities such as résumé and LinkedIn workshops and a professional growth–focused book club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certifications.
  • Six months experience working with groups of children ages 6-months – 12 years.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, fluent in English.
  • Ability to work outside during all seasons.
  • Ability to provide basic hygiene services for young children.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment, while supervising children.
  • Must have a positive, upbeat, friendly attitude and enjoy providing five-star customer service.
  • Must be a team player who can develop strong and positive working relationships with all staff.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and improve daily, with a passion for staying creative and informed on the latest industry trend. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly
  • Constantly walks and stands, reaches, bends, lifts, carries, and stoops.
  • Frequently washes hands.
  • Must be able to swim.

Our outstanding tennis facilities include 12 clay courts, 4 hard courts, 3 indoor clay courts, and 2 squash courts. The pool complex houses five swimming pools including a competition pool, diving pool, adult pool, children's pool, and wading pool.
