About this role

The Summer Camp Director leads and supervises Summer Camp Counselors while ensuring a fun, safe, and engaging environment for all campers. This role oversees camper well-being, delivers age-appropriate activities, and ensures daily operations follow the Camp CCC schedule. A high level of professionalism, customer service, organization, and adherence to all health and safety procedures, including pool safety, is required.

This internship includes rotational exposure to other areas of club management and involves assisting with camp billing, managing reservation and registration emails, and serving as the primary point of contact for parents as the face and voice of Camp CCC.

This is a CMAA Verified Internship Program (VIP).


Hours:

  • Seasonal role – ranging from mid-May – August 10th.
  • CCC Summer Camp runs Monday–Thursday, with one additional weekend workday dedicated to either rotational shifts in other departments or completing camp-related projects. Rotational assignments are subject to change based on departmental needs and available hours.
  • Must be available 40 hours a week.

  • Ability to lead a team, work with Camp Counselors in a supportive manner.
  • Flexible with scheduling while accommodating Summer Camp needs.
  • Team-player and leader who ensures quality service and a positive camp environment.
  • Adhere to all club property rules.
  • Establish and maintain great relationships with the CCC Campers and their parents.
  • Convey a professional image through a positive attitude and proper attire.
  • Assist other departments when necessary, including youth events. family events, club child watch, and more.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain knowledge of club policies, procedures, and youth department standards.
  • Follow and enforce all health, safety, and first aid protocols; proactively prevent accidents.
  • Assist in supervising Summer Camp Counselors, including scheduling and break coverage.
  • Plan, lead, and supervise age-appropriate activities and events for children and families.
  • Ensure camper safety at all times, including during movement throughout club property.
  • Build positive relationships with campers by engaging in games, skill-building, and group activities.
  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding drop-off, pick-up, and individual camper needs.
  • Greet campers and parents warmly and by name, serving as a welcoming presence for Camp CCC.
  • Assist with daily camp setup, meals, snacks, and activity transitions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked camp environment.
  • Properly use, care for, and store camp and childcare materials.
  • Resolve camper conflicts using appropriate redirection and behavior management techniques.
  • Exercise sound judgment and promptly communicate any concerns or incidents to supervisors.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong customer service skills, and proper phone etiquette.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Participate in rotational shifts across club departments, including banquets, food & beverage, culinary, event planning, and more.
  • Completes opening and closing duties to ensure a clean and safe work area in the child watch center.
  • Participate in scheduled check-ins with managers throughout the internship to discuss progress, development goals, and overall growth.
  • Engage in professional development activities such as résumé and LinkedIn workshops and a professional growth–focused book club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in a 4+ year Education or Hospitality Management, Childhood Development, or related field.
  • Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certifications or the ability to become certified prior to the beginning of camp, or ability to become certified prior to beginning of camp
  • Six months experience working with groups of children ages 6-months – 12 years.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, fluent in English.
  • Ability to work outside during the hot summer season.
  • Ability to provide basic hygiene services for young children.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment, while supervising children.
  • Must have a positive, upbeat, friendly attitude and enjoy providing five-star customer service.
  • Must be a team player who can develop strong and positive working relationships with all staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly
  • Constantly walks and stands, reaches, bends, lifts, carries, and stoops.
  • Frequently washes hands.
  • Must be able to swim.

Charlotte Country Club was founded in 1910 and is located four miles east of uptown Charlotte, in the historic Plaza-Midwood neighborhood. Our outstanding tennis facilities include 12 clay courts, 4 hard courts, 3 indoor clay courts, and 2 squash courts. The pool complex houses five swimming pools including a competition pool, diving pool, adult pool, children's pool, and wading pool.
