About Us

SEED Environmental is one of the UK's leading providers of intelligent environmental and property incident response, remediation and restoration services for our insurance, commercial and public sector clients. We adopt an "Intelligent Solutions" approach, assessing and analysing every incident on its merits before implementing a unique response.

As part of the Celnor Group, we maintain a family culture where everyone is welcoming, helpful, and open to ideas. We value giving people a voice and creating an environment where colleagues can thrive and develop their careers.

This role sits within the CTSL part of our business, offering the opportunity to work with a dedicated team known for its technical expertise and commitment to excellent client service. CTSL Group joined SEED Environmental in 2025, bringing together complementary expertise in environmental compliance, spill response, and remediation. Founded in 2006 and based in Leyland with additional depots across the UK, CTSL is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialists in environmental claims management and site services.

About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental Consultant to join our CTSL team covering Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, practical professional to take on start-to-finish project management of environmental claims projects, with a particular focus on building-related environmental work.

You will manage projects independently from inception to completion, working flexibly from home and on-site rather than being office-based. This role requires someone comfortable working autonomously across large geographical areas, including remote locations, and who can communicate effectively with everyone from site operatives to professional clients. You will be responsible for project budgeting, invoicing, and ensuring projects are delivered in a timely manner in line with client service level agreements.

Working as part of a smaller, close-knit team, you will have the freedom to manage your own schedule while being supported by experienced colleagues. A company van will be provided for site visits.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management
  • Manage environmental claims projects independently from inception to completion, with full project ownership
  • Take responsibility for overall project management including cost estimates, billing, and managing contracts
  • Ensure agreed budgets and delivery deadlines are met
  • Conduct robust fieldwork data gathering and hands-on site work as required
  • Determine your own schedule and manage your workload across a large geographical area

Technical Delivery
  • Focus on building-related environmental assessment and remediation projects
  • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including supervision of ground investigation subcontractors
  • Complete factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive assessment)
  • Write technically sound and commercially focused proposals, scopes, and reports
  • Work hands-on on site when required, comfortable getting involved in practical work

Client and Stakeholder Relations
  • Maintain project communication on technical and commercial levels with a diverse range of clients, regulators, and homeowners
  • Communicate effectively with everyone from site operatives and contractors to professional clients in formal meetings
  • Build positive working relationships through professional and responsive service
  • Represent the company professionally across all levels of interaction

Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Work in a safe manner and observe the company's health, safety and environment rules and procedures as well as any site rules and procedures
  • Ensure all projects are fully compliant with current and emerging environmental legislation
  • Maintain accurate and complete project documentation and records

Commercial Awareness
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness in the need to save and minimise project costs wherever possible
  • Understand commercial risk and inform relevant senior staff where identified so appropriate action can be taken
  • Adopt a solution-oriented approach to challenges

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential Requirements:
  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline such as Geology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science or Physical Geography
  • 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • Previous proven experience of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment gained in a similar or related role
  • Previous proven experience completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive assessment)
  • Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Strong people skills and ability to communicate face-to-face at all levels
  • Practical, hands-on approach - comfortable working on site and getting involved in fieldwork
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently across large geographical areas
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage your own schedule
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Scotland, including to remote locations such as Orkney and Shetland
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Desirable:
  • MSc or MSci in Geology, Hydrogeology, Contaminated Land, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science
  • Experience in insurance-related environmental work or building-related environmental assessment
  • Background in environmental claims management
  • Practical work experience in sectors such as construction, farming, labouring, or similar hands-on roles
  • Real-world customer-facing experience (e.g., retail, hospitality, or similar)

  • Enhanced sick pay and employee assistance programme
  • Company bonus scheme
  • Death in service
  • Annual pay review
