About this role

Overview

The CDC Foundation is seeking a candidate for a full-time policy analyst to support the implementation of a project which aims to reduce drowning in the United States. During the two-year initiative, the project team, in collaboration with public health agencies and other internal and external partners, aims to develop evidence-based resources to inform key drowning prevention strategies across the United States. The policy analyst will utilize systems-level thinking to assess the effectiveness and implementation of state and local municipality water safety and pool fencing legislation. The ideal candidate will also be able to apply rigorous standards to the review of scientific literature and policy initiatives to ensure adherence to ethical standards of public health.

The policy analyst position is an interdisciplinary role that brings together strong technical and analytical skills, with knowledge of public health, social policy and/or drowning prevention. The combined skills and experience are essential to ensure the strategic objectives of the project are met.


Responsibilities

1. Conduct a literature review, research and analysis on drowning prevention policy priorities

2. Collaborate with agency partners, subject matter experts and community representatives to identify drowning prevention policy gaps and provide considerations to strengthen drowning prevention approaches

3. Evaluate existing drowning prevention policies using quantitative and qualitative methods

4. Collect, track, and analyze drowning prevention legislation and policies at the state and local levels

5. Use collected data to estimate the impact on drowning burden implementing model water safety and pool fencing legislation could have

6. Develop resources that summarize findings from policy research to policy-relevant products such as policy briefs, fact sheets and reports that can help policymakers and other stakeholders make informed decisions

7. Support economic analysis and other research activities, including survey development, related to drowning prevention

8. Collaborate with CDC Foundation staff to support quantitative and qualitative data analyses and

project management tasks associated with other domestic drowning projects, as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in public health, public administration, public health law, social work, social science, economics or related field from an accredited college or university required

2. Minimum of 3 years of public health and/or related professional experience required

3. Specialized experience in drowning and/or injury prevention and public health practice areas such as policy analysis, research and evaluation; and/or partnership development preferred

4. Experience working as a policy analyst or health scientist in public health and/or social sciences involving planning, development and translation of research and policy for diverse audiences

5. Ability to make decisions that contribute to the advancement of evidence-based interventions for drowning prevention

6. Experience analyzing, researching and evaluating information relevant to specific public health policy issues and developing metrics to monitor and evaluate policies for their effectiveness and quality

7. Experience and ability to use qualitative and quantitative statistical software such as NVivo, MAXQDA, SAS, Excel and STATA, preferred

8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing and editing complex documents such as peer-reviewed articles, white papers, briefing documents and detailed reports to a variety of internal/external partners

9. Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues and internal/external partners

10. Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally


Position Highlights

Location: This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates. Travel is required up to 10% of the time.

Salary Range: $75,000-$82,000

Position Type: Grant funded, limited-term opportunity contingent upon funding

Position End Date: June 30, 2027
