Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

T&I is the backbone and the future-forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly-regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we’re transforming ourselves from a conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force and T&I is the team making it happen.

Your Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Transmission Operations, you will be a key leader responsible for supervising a specialized team of telecommunications technology professionals. You bring deep expertise in digital television transmitters (ATSC), FM transmitters, related broadcast equipment, RF systems, antennas, satellite downlinks and IP technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team and Operational Management
    • Lead, coach and develop your team, overseeing performance management and daily task assignments.
    • Manage transmission infrastructure and operational budgets, and support the planning, development and implementation of various technical projects.
  • Logistics and National Support
    • Co-ordinate National Warehouse operations to provide critical logistical and operational support for corporate projects, transmission sites and the CBC/Radio-Canada Archives.
    • Supervise the Transmission Integrated Support team, focusing on national-level application support and systems administration.
  • Service Maintenance and Continuous Improvement
    • Maintain broadcast service continuity, ensuring all infrastructure under your responsibility meets quality, compliance and productivity standards.
    • Help determine technical solutions to meet client and project needs.
    • Drive innovation by evaluating and refining existing processes and developing new workflows in collaboration with your team.
    • Assist the Senior Manager in meeting departmental goals and service requirements.
  • Availability and Travel
    • This role requires 24/7 on-call availability to respond to emergencies and mobilize staff to ensure operational continuity.
    • Travel is required, primarily within Ontario and occasionally across Canada.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education
    • College diploma (DEC) in electronics (telecommunications option preferred), a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Experience
    • Proven experience managing people in a unionized environment; background in technical infrastructure management, ideally within the radio or television broadcast industry.
    • Relevant experience in application support, project management and inventory/logistics management.
  • In-Depth Technical Knowledge
    • Expert knowledge of public transmission infrastructure (AM, FM, DTV/ATSC).
    • Deep understanding of TV/radio transmission methods, technical equipment, production workflows, compression standards (analog and digital), IP technologies and satellite communication infrastructure.
    • Ability to select appropriate equipment for specialized technical projects.

    • Excellent organizational skills with an aptitude for budget management.
    • High stress tolerance and the ability to multitask.
