Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

Technology and Infrastructures (T&I) is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work.  We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly-regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we’re transforming ourselves from conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force. T&I is the team making it happen.

This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with the hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

What you’ll do?

Reporting to the Product Director, Engineering, you will join the Content Every Day product family. In this role, you will create inclusive, engaging and accessible product experiences for Canadians, informed by clear, measurable key results and delivery expectations.

You will be responsible for managing and delivering one of the backlogs related to CBC/Radio-Canada content production. You will work with your stakeholders, including directors, senior managers and production teams in the department, to identify the biggest problems to solve and the best solutions to employ. You will proactively seek opportunities to maximize the value of the products under your responsibility. You will champion transparency and regularly share reliable, relevant information to foster a culture of trust and strong collaboration.

As a product-driven leader, you will set the standard for your team. You are curious, pragmatic and focused on the essentials, never losing sight of the real-world value you deliver. You take the initiative to resolve roadblocks before they become major risks, ensuring a rigorous approach to every project.

How you will make an impact?

  • Guiding development and managing the product backlog, epics and user stories to deliver the most value to CBC/Radio-Canada’s priorities and objectives.

  • Understanding, analyzing and synthesizing business and end-user needs.

  • Prioritizing feature delivery to ensure user and business needs are met effectively.

  • Building the product family road map and setting priorities in conjunction with stakeholders.

  • Leading collaboration sessions with all product teams, as well as with other internal and external partners, to manage dependencies, optimize our value delivery and minimize code/release conflicts.

  • Working actively with other senior product managers within the family to ensure cohesive planning of road maps.

  • Establishing and actively monitoring measurable product outcomes (product success metrics).

  • Supervising business analysts working within the product family.

  • Working closely with the Scrum Master to co-ordinate and facilitate agile ceremonies, including daily stand-up, refinement, planning and review sessions (retrospectives will be conducted by the Agile Lead).

  • Overseeing releases and validating quality with the team.

  • Serving as the subject matter expert and primary resource for your assigned product line.

  • Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with all relevant stakeholders.

  • Helping create and maintain efficient team workflows and documentation.

  • Facilitating the removal of obstacles related to product priorities/goals/vision for the development team.

  • Communicating delivery progress for your product line.

  • Helping identify product risks related to value, viability and usability with the Technical Lead.

  • Working with management to determine the human, financial and technical resources needed to support your products; managing the budget and reporting on performance.

  • Ensuring your product line remains aligned with the broader organizational strategy by working closely with the Product Family Director and Architecture teams.

  • Managing supplier relationships.

  • Leading relationships with technical teams within the organization and between Radio-Canada and CBC (negotiating priorities, scope of work and objectives).

What you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

  • Five or more years’ product manager experience (or equivalent), with a proven track record in product development.

  • Demonstrated experience co-ordinating work across multiple agile teams.

  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated facilitation experience.

  • Proven ability to assess and communicate trade-offs and benefits to support decision-making.

  • Proven ability to negotiate and align with stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the media industry an asset.

  • Ability to actively foster an outcome-focused approach.

  • Demonstrable experience with scoping, planning and delivering complex and integrated projects to quality, time and budget constraints using agile methodologies.

  • Experience managing backlogs in collaboration with agile product teams, and proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Jira, Tempo, Confluence and key project management tools; ability to quickly learn new technologies.

  • Strong and consistent communication skills.

  • Ability to champion and support initiatives for improving accessibility, equity and inclusion in digital experiences.

  • Commitment to reflecting the CBC/Radio-Canada community and a diverse, contemporary Canada.

  • Fluency in English and French required.

Please note that due to the nature of the mandates and responsibilities of this role, all candidates will be required to work in a multilingual environment, where business will be conducted in both official languages (English and French).
