Overview

The Work

The Driver will perform essential transportation services in the National Capital Region. The role requires a commitment to safety, punctuality, and respectful service to Wounded, Ill, and Injured (WII) Soldiers.

 

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

 

Class "B" Bus Driver with Passenger Endorsement

  • Drives minibus, bus, or van to transport clients, trainees, or government personnel over specified or alternate routes to local or distant points according to the time schedule.
  • Assists passengers.
  • Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Compliance with local traffic regulations, and reports delays or accidents.
  • Drives vehicle from individual or central loading area to social services or rehabilitation center, training location, job site, or other destination according to assigned schedule.
  • Must inspect bus and check gas, oil, and water before departure as well as other PMCS checks.
  • Transports soldiers, pupils and/or government officials and patrons between pickup points and school.
  • Must be able to drive diesel, and/or electric powered transit equipment to transport passengers over established city and governments routes.
  • Drivers must be able to assist STs into and out of vehicle; in doing so drivers might need to lend minimal physical assistance to passengers while loading and unloading. Must load wheelchairs with passengers seated, secure passengers, then secure wheelchair(s) to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Must be able operate phones or similar device to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
  • Clean vehicles, service vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  • Keeps record of trips and/or behavior of passengers. Complete all required documentation neatly and completely, daily.
  • Perform other duties when not driving as directed by the Supervisor, such as:
    • Take a vehicle to or from a maintenance provider,
    • move an SRB operated vehicle as required by contract personnel,
    • add, or remove items to the vehicle as required by contract personnel,
    • receive new equipment training as required by government contract personnel,
    • assist in reconfiguring a vehicle as required by government contract personnel,
    • respond to customer inquiries, and
    • secure keys and materials at the end of each shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bus drivers/operators Class B License with Passenger Endorsement (valid state operator’s license appropriate for the equipment being operated)
  • Demonstrable experience in a professional driving position with a clean driving record and proficiency in vehicle operational safety.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English to a standard required for safe operations and effective communication.
  • Must be able to pass annual Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated physical exams.
  • Valid Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must be able to obtain Army Accident-Avoidance card.
  • Qualified in operating American Disability Act (ADA) equipped vehicles and assisting with the transfer of patients onto and out of shuttles.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated NACI clearance.

Working Conditions

  • Capable of performing outdoor work under all climatic conditions.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Assist individuals on and off bus,
    • Sit for extended periods of time while operating buses,
    • Visual acuity that meets DMV and/or DOT requirements for driving,
    • Hearing and speaking to exchange information,
    • Reach, pull and push,
    • Bend at the waist, kneel, and or crouch to inspect buses and assist individuals,
    • Lift moderately heavy objects,
    • Push or pull wheelchairs,
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate bus control panel.
  • Varied environmental conditions within the National Capital Region.
  • Requirement for occasional travel outside the NCR.
  • Ability to respond and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.

Pay Range

USD $27.79 - USD $27.79 /Hr.
