The Behavioral Health Support Associate provides recovery oriented and culturally relevant group support services and talking circles for individuals with substance use disorders.
This position assists in implementing Wellbriety programs as well as work with participants that may be enrolled in other programs such as drug court program, substance and alcohol abuse program, victims of crime, and ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) Program.
This position supports the CIN Mission by promoting collective and individual self-sufficiency of the Catawba people, enhancing the safety and well-being of our tribal community, and providing services in a culturally relevant and holistic manner.
Major duties of this role include assisting with IOP and group support sessions, cultural inclusive alternative and art therapy. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Operations.
This is a full-time position with the following regular hours of:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday : 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Essential Functions
An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Assist with Wellbriety programs, including Outpatient Substance Misuse classes and Recovery management.
Provide peer-based group support and mentorship by drawing on personal recovery experience to inspire hope and motivation in others.
Educate and empower clients to develop healthy coping skills, access needed resources and make informed choices to achieve their recovery goals.
Develop and lead daily group talking circles.
Attend necessary training both online, in state, and out of state.
Stay informed on best practices in the field and enroll in necessary classes to advance knowledge
Provide crisis intervention for participants when necessary.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Navigate the BH registration and intake process with participant, including but not limited to scheduling appointments, sending registration links, and tracking attendance
Incorporate culturally inclusive activities in IOP and group settings
Host peer led groups consistent with tribal needs. Examples include NA/AA/ Wellbriety/ CRAFT/ grief support, and citizen resource center.

QualificationsQualifications
Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge about substance use disorders (SUD) and the impact it has on the individual and family.
Successful completion of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or related inpatient substance use treatment program/hospitalization
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required within one year of employment.
Associate's degree preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
Ability to become a Certified Addiction Counselor and/or National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist within two years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to be calm, approachable, friendly in order to make participants feel safe.
Demonstrated ability to maintain effective, professional, and courteous working relationships and demeanor with other employees and the public.
Understanding of recovery principles, crisis response, intervention and harm reduction.
Must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Willingness and ability to attend and travel to trainings and continuing education as required.
Travel includes state and out of state, including by air.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed in a variety of settings including CN Health Authority, community centers and office environments.
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to meet client needs.
May be required to travel to off-site to community events and partner agency meetings.
Reliable transportation required for travel to various community and health service sites.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
