About this role

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various projects. This role involves reviewing specifications and drawings, performing quantity take-offs, and collaborating with project teams, vendors, and management to develop detailed bids. The Estimator supports project planning, budgeting, and proposal efforts while maintaining up-to-date cost data and ensuring timely, high-quality submissions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Estimating:

  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, and customer standards to determine the full scope of work and estimating requirements
  • Prepare disciplined estimates by calculating complete take-off of scope of work
  • Prepare estimate breakdowns; provide information to Project Manager
  • Create and update estimates using estimating/project management software
  • Submit bids and proposals on projects estimated after approval

Cost & Data Management:

  • Maintain and update cost databases and estimating systems with current supplier pricing, labor rates, and unit values
  • Collect and analyze supplier data to ensure accurate and competitive bid preparation
  • Recommend and implement improvements to estimating tools and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy

Project Coordination & Documentation:

  • Maintain organized, up-to-date project files and drawings to support accuracy throughout the estimating process
  • Turn over finalized estimates and supporting documentation to managers and leadership as required
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure project specifications and pricing align with project requirements
  • Complete additional assignments as directed to support team and organizational goals

Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination:

  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task. 
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention. 
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents. 
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed. 
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel. 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Higher education OR equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience within the construction (specifically electrical construction) industry preferred
  • Ability to read and understand various construction documents

Experience, Skill and Abilities

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity – both are non-negotiable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Strong self-motivation, work ethic, and drive for career growth
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of the company and customers

Physical Requirements

  • Office environment, requiring sitting and standing and extended amounts of time using a computer/keyboard at a single workstation.
