About this role

The Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for leading, supervising, and ensuring the safety of all participants during lifeguard training sessions. This role includes overseeing the proper use, maintenance, and presentation of all instructional materials and equipment at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. The Lifeguard Instructor observes participants’ performance, provides constructive feedback, and ensures that all training is conducted in accordance with established safety standards and protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:

1. Training & Instruction

  • Lead lifeguard certification and recertification courses.
  • Develop structured lesson plans and manage instructional timelines.
  • Provide hands-on coaching, evaluate participant performance, and deliver constructive feedback.
  • Assist with onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing development of lifeguard staff.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure full compliance with all StarGuard Elite training and safety regulations.

2. Maintenance & Process Improvement 

  • Monitor activities to prevent accidents and provide guidance to participants.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly aquatic facilities, classrooms, and training equipment.
  • Secure testing materials and completed participant tests.
  • Uphold professional appearance and adhere to uniform requirements.
  • Evaluate operational processes and recommend improvements in training, staffing, policies, and procedures.

3. Compliance & Safety 

  • Foster a strong safety culture within the lifeguard team.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, administering proper care when needed.
  • Reinforce adherence to safety regulations during training and on the job.

4.Additional Duties

  • Assist the Lifeguard Manager or Supervisor with any tasks that support the smooth operation of aquatic facilities.
  • Provide support for special projects, events, or initiatives as assigned by management.
  • Offer guidance or expertise in safety, training, or operational procedures when needed.
  • Step in to help cover responsibilities in other areas of the lifeguard team during staffing shortages or peak periods.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, procedures, or team performance.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus 
  • Internationally recognized lifeguard certification 
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in a water safety environment in a hotel or related industry. 

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Guest Facing Experience 
  • Customer service experience gained in a similar role is required. 
  • Proficiency in the use of computer business applications, with working knowledge of computerized accounting and payroll systems. 
  • Ability to comfortable teach and lead large groups of people. 
  • Be proficient in all lifeguard skills. 
  • Administrative skills preferred. 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in conversational English
  • Strong grasp of the English Language 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically fit. 
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask effectively. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data entry and reporting tools.
  • Detail orientated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, especially in handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations.
