About this role

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Computing Services is searching for a Network Operations Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by being responsible for deployment, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of LAN and WAN networks.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure the security and reliability of network infrastructure.

  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate network performance, diagnose issues, and define user and system requirements.

  • Deploy, configure, manage, and monitor Wireless, LAN, and WAN environments, including routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, 802.11 wireless LANs, TCP/IP, Ethernet, SNMP, and VPN technologies.

  • Maintain accurate and current network documentation.

  • Provide tier 3 support for complex network issues, performing advanced troubleshooting and implementing effective solutions.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 1–3 years of experience in network administration and/or network security administration.

  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification highly desired.

  • Experience and/or certification with Cisco Systems or Aruba Networks  wireless infrastructure preferred; other wireless vendor experience also valued.
