About this role

* Pay increases every 6 months based on performance per apprentice pay scale for on-the-job training (OJT). Upon successful completion of OJT and demonstration of technical competence, may be promoted to Craft I HVAC Mechanic. Stationary Engineer required to be further promoted to Craft II HVAC Mechanic.

Core responsibilities:

This position will require flexibility in working various shifts, overtime, and call-out work. You will need to be able to work outside during inclement conditions in a safe and effective manner.

  • Adjust and repair pneumatic, electric, and electronic control HVAC components.

  • Monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment via computer interfaces, requisition job parts and supplies.

  • Inspect and monitor HVAC equipment including AHU’s, FCU’s, self-contained units, CRAC units and refrigeration equipment. Maintain and repair as needed.

  • Requisition job parts and supplies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • EPA CFC Universal certification required

  • Graduation from HVAC trade school (must include transcript with resume for application to be considered)

Experience:

  • Two years of full-time experience in an institutional (college, university, hospital, etc.) setting preferred.

  • One year apprentice level experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and/or structural trades preferred.

  • Additional experience in HVAC system and DDC installations preferred.

  • Documented on-the-job experience using hand tools.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications

  • Perform scheduled inspection and scheduled maintenance of HVAC equipment.

  • Work in cooperation with other crafts, install new HVAC, refrigeration and associated control systems.

  • Must be able to work effectively with other craft employees and deal with difficult people effectively. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage challenging customers.

  • Must understand the scope of the job assigned and communicate effectively with customers to ensure scope of work is understood.

  • Ability to move and work in confined spaces, up and down ladders and to work from ladders, scaffolding and bucket truck platform.

  • Travel to jobs over a 100+ acre campus with many hills and stairs.

  • Operate on and off-road vehicle or light trucks on support of assigned work.

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead.

  • Ability to pass a physical exam for clearance to wear a respirator when working near hazardous environments.

Requirements:

  • Successful Background Check

  • Valid PA Driver’s License

  • Motor Vehicle Records (conducted annually)

  • Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam

  • Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen

  • PA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
