About this role

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Athletics is searching for an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. Carnegie Mellon has a world-renowned reputation with core values that reflect its commitment to hiring and retaining individuals with a diversity of talents, perspectives and experiences. A national research university, Carnegie Mellon is a member of the NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports program. This is a full-time, 10-month, recurring, benefit eligible position from mid-August to mid-June.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment of potential student-athletes

  • Demonstrate competency in technique instruction, motivation, and ability to conduct team and individual practice sessions under the direction of the head coach

  • Game preparation and implementation, video analysis, and opponent scouting

  • Planning team travel and event management

  • Demonstrate sincere interest in personal, academic, and athletic progress of student-athletes

  • Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior pursuing sport program goals set by the head coach

  • Leadership ability and professional behavior when working with student-athletes

  • Transporting team in vans or cars to meets and off campus practice locations

  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours and on weekends

  • Teaching in the physical education program, as requested

  • Covering shifts at recreation desks, as needed

  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III, UAA Conference rules and policies

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • 1-3 years of collegiate coaching experience preferred or experience as a successful collegiate competitor 

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is proven may be considered.

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
