CARILION PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY PROGRAM
Join our dedicated Emergency Psychiatry team, where compassion meets purpose. As a Psychiatric Technician, you’ll play a vital role supporting individuals in crisis within the Emergency Department, psychiatry consult service, and inpatient behavioral health units. This role is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced environments, value teamwork, and are passionate about making a difference one patient at a time.

• Provide hands-on care, observation, and emotional support for patients in behavioral health crisis. 
• Assist with daily living activities, safety checks, and delegated nursing tasks under RN supervision. 
• Use trauma-informed communication and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm, therapeutic environment. 
• Collaborate with nurses, providers, and security staff during behavioral emergencies as directed. 
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Carilion policy and professional standards. 
• Contribute to quality and safety initiatives that improve the patient experience and team workflow. 

What We Require:

Education: High school graduate or GED required.
Experience: N/A
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: De-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward. Must be able to obtain AHA BLS-HCP. Valid Virginia State Drivers license required in the NRV to transport patients.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Requires experience with or the ability for managing patients with explosive potential and/or escalating situations. Requires ability to function with minimum supervision, recognizing the need for direction and assistance in situations beyond his/her scope of capabilities. Requires ability to learn and participate as a team member. Requires clinical skills to work with child, adolescent and adult population understanding their growth and development
