About this role

STS Packaging Indianapolis, a Schwarz Partners, L.P. Joint Venture company is currently seeking a Converting/Finishing Supervisor for Third Shift in Mooresville, IN. The Converting/Finishing Supervisor provides oversight and leadership to the Finishing Department and ensures the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. This position manages, plans and directs the operations of the department in a safe, hazard free work environment, while managing personnel, quality and production procedures, achieving total customer satisfaction in a cost-effective manner, with continuous support to the plant manager.

ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Directs and supports Feeder/Packers throughout shift to achieve production goals in both forming and straight-line gluing areas; maintain quality throughout production day.
  • Adhere to production schedule; make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.
  • Responsible for production team productivity throughout shift, including assigning all breaks and assigning other tasks such as cleaning, repacking, hold product inspection/sorting, etc. during line downtime events.
  • Works on the production lines whenever unexpected absenteeism occurs, or when needed to meet Customer needs.
  • Communicates production targets and product specifications to production team.
  • Creates work orders and other labels as required.
  • Promotes and facilitates the personal development of Team members by identifying the need for training and provide training.
  • Trains team on required paperwork, and ensures all inventory, scrap, etc. are logged accurately.
  • Enters/codes downtime and navigates line dashboard with ability to explain it to production team.
  • Trains operators on glue tolerances and machine settings, operation and maintenance.
  • Maintains required materials supplies (RSCs, glue, WIP, etc.) at the lines and directs material handlers as needed based on priorities.
  • Ensure 5S standards are followed according to visual aids in the department.
  • Understands the flow of the palletizing area and communicates with palletizing employees to assist with any systems issues that arise throughout the shift.
  • Responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other duties related to day-to-day issues that may arise, as assigned by the Plant Manager.
  • Ability to work overtime as the job requires.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area and reports unsafe conditions to management for resolution.
  • Adheres to all safety policies, including always wearing required PPE, and sets an example to others for model safety behavior.
  • Makes informed decisions on quality defects and trains production team on common quality defects, including how to detect as well as what to do if observed.
  • Reports any major quality or food safety issues to Supervisor.
  • Conform to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures and policies to assure products are suitable for food contact
  • Responsible for reporting any product quality or food safety issues to the Quality Manager (SQF Practitioner) or Management Team Member
  • Additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School degree or GED.
  • 2 years’ experience operating finishing equipment.
  • 2 years experience in leading effective teams


PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • College/Trade School degree in manufacturing.


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of how to perform basic quality checks.
  • Fluent in production terminology.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach, train and perform.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Basic understanding of OEE and how it is used to measure machine overall performance.
  • Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed.

Language Skills:

  • Fluent in English is required
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus

Physical Demands:

Constant standing, walking, talking, hearing; occasional sitting; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. The position also requires the ability to stand 90% of shift and lift up to forty-five pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be available.
