Position Overview

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science related field. MT ASCP preferred.

  • Three years of experience as a Medical Technologist, experience with POC preferred.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Intermediate computer skills.

  • Ability to independently assess situations considers various alternatives and chooses appropriate course of action. 

  • Able to multitask and capable of adhering to deadlines and expectations.

  • Frequent physical demands include: Carry objects , Push/Pull , Twisting , Bending , Reaching forward , Reaching overhead , Wrist position deviation , Pinching/fine motor activities

Occasional physical demands include: Squat/kneel/crawl
Continuous physical demands include: Sitting , Standing , Walking , Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders) , Keyboard use/repetitive motion , Talk or Hear
Lifting Floor to Waist 20 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 20 lbs

  • In conjunction with the Point of Care Coordinator, oversees quality assurance of POC testing performed by CH personnel. Discusses findings with laboratory management and exercises discretion and judgment to develop and implement corrective measures, including recommending new policies and procedures and training programs.

  • Contributes to collection of data and development of reports for POC quality assurance activities.

  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements for POC and works with nursing managers and lab leadership to monitor compliance with all POC Laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitors and analyzes outcomes, reviews results of proficiency testing, and reviews monthly departmental POC quality assurance reports to assess degree of compliance with POC quality assurance standards.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation. Reviews quality control results with publication of statistical parameters of each unit.

  • Conducts initial orientation and ongoing training and competency for all employees performing POC.

  • Oversees the activities of the POC testing staff to ensure they generate accurate and reliable test results. Monitors adherence to established policies, practices and procedures.

  • Oversees the distribution and completion of proficiency testing as required, and follows up with correction actions to address unacceptable results. Submits electronic proficiency test results to College of American Pathologists.

  • Recommends changes in procedures and techniques as required. Takes appropriate corrective action when needed. Keeps coordinator informed of the status of activities, problems and new initiatives.

  • Maintains accurate records, procedure manuals, quality assurance records and quality control records as required.

  • Follows all accreditation and regulatory requirements related to POC testing. Follows policy and procedures for validation, calibration, accuracy, repeatability and method comparison testing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
