Position Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides clinical services according to Neuroscience practice standards and acts as a resource to other technologists to ensure optimal patient care and efficient departmental operations. Prepares patients, exam rooms and medical records for scheduled and non-scheduled patients. Performs appropriate procedures as determined by physician.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiological principles and theory, anatomy, positioning, and technique for obtaining optimal imaging studies. Explains radiographic procedure to the patient, obtains complete and accurate history relevant to the examiniation to be performed.
  • Communicates effectively with the patient. Demonstrates patient safety by use of guard rails, breaking mechanisms, shielding, and patient monitoring. Demonstrates radiation protection and safety for patients and staff as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines. Maintains radiation exposure reading within the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) limits.

  • Enters accurately patient data and exam data into the Radiology Information System. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Computer-based information systems as required. Ability to download studies from transferring hospitals. Enters written and electronic data accurately in comments to provide all pertinent data to radiologists and neuro-interventionalist to assist in the interpretation of imaging studies.
  • Assists with radiology equipment manufacturers to develop new imaging software and new techniques, if applicable.
  • Assists physicians during invasive procedures using standard department protocols and appropriate radiation protection, sterile procedures, and infection control procedures. Produces permanent record of diagnostic examinations. Conducts scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work area and/or shift. Routinely functions as an inventory auditor, if applicable. Assist department physicians and PH.D.'s in developing new protocols and imaging techniques (digital imaging, PACS) for use in diagnostic Radiology.
  • Recognizes clinical and emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome. Participates in QA and PI activities and actively works to improve quality of services, cost effectiveness of operations, teamwork, and quality of work environment. Adheres to department policies and protocols to ensure that all studies are optimized for interpretation.

  • Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations. Prepares, operates, and maintains equipment consistent with established policies, standards, and practices for sterilization, safety, and proper operation condition.
  • Completes competency checklist with their preceptors. Identifies correctly patients and files to ensure a high degree of accuracy. Enters written and electronic data accurately in comments to provide all pertinent data to interventional physicians and to assist in the interpretation of imaging studies.
  • Serves as a Safety monitor on a routine basis, if applicable. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Demonstrates commitment to Capital Health. Performs other duties as assigned; possesses willingness to adapt to changing department demands

  • Assist department physicians and PH.D.'s in developing new protocols and imaging techniques (digital imaging, PACS) for use in diagnostic Radiology.
  • Maintains an organized and safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s safety, risk management and regulatory standards. Reports any unusual circumstances to departmental leadership. Collaborates and communicates effectively with the inter-disciplinary team. Oversees patient safety by use of guard rails, breaking mechanisms, shielding, and patient monitoring and assist in the preparation of the endovascular insertion site (Groin Closure) with the closure devices available in the endovascular lab. (Example: Angioseal, Mynx, Femostop, and manual compression.
  • Participates in the training of students, trainees and co-workers. Participates in research activities as required. Serves as a role model and consultant for students, trainees and co-workers. Serves an instructor/preceptor for training technologists and Fellows.
  • Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient care activity. Rotates between interventional labs across both campuses as needed. Participates in department research initiatives and development of research procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Graduation from accredited school of radiological technology. ARRT registered.
  • Experience: Three years experience as a Diagnostic Radiology Technologist. Six months angiography experience preferred.
  • Other Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider
  • Requires NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation) AND 4 hours of Stroke related Continuing Education contact hours annually
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and application of current practices in Diagnostic Radiology, maintained through extensive reading of published literature and practice standards. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Basic math skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Special Training: Ability to read and interpret radiologic interventional examinations, documents. Expert knowledge and skills as a Neuroscience and Endovascular Diagnostic Radiology Technologist, preferred.
