Responsible for demonstrating clinical and operational knowledge and expertise as it relates to assessment, treatment, and care of patients at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. This knowledge and expertise cover the ages of patients (references Erickson’s Model) that the pharmacist may serve and requires the pharmacist to produce results through clinical interventions. Reviews physician medication orders, checking for problems associated with dosages, interactions and incompatibilities; enters orders into computer and dispenses medications in accordance with the orders; supervises work of technicians and helps to train and orient new employees.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Performs comprehensive patient medication order interpretation, checking for problems with dosages, interactions, and incompatibilities
Performs comprehensive patient medication order computer entry
Functions as a supervisor of technicians, students, and co-workers
Prepares ordered medications and dispenses ordered medications
Provides a safe working environment
Maintains effective working relationships with hospital staff
Participates in Organizational Improvement activities
Complete all required documentation
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Licensed as Pharmacist by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (NCBOP) required OR graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy required OR eligible for graduation required

Knowledge of Pharmacy laws (state and national)
Knowledge of ages of patients (references Erickson’s Model) that the pharmacist may serve: infant (0 to 12 months), toddlers (13 months to 30 months), preschooler (30 months to 5 years), school age (6 years to 12 years), adolescent (13 years to 18 years), young adult (18 years to 30 years), middle adult (30 years to 65 years), and older adult (greater than 65 years)
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Interpersonal skills that promote cooperative peer behavior
Knowledge of drugs and how they act and interact
Ability to work variable shifts
Ability to turn and lift patients
Much standing, walking, bending and lifting
Possess visual and auditory acuity for observing patients
Position involves exposure to blood and body secretions and may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
