Summary

Responsible for the coordination of staff and material resources in various clinical areas with the goal of promoting safe, cost-efficient, quality care and patient satisfaction.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Monitors all aspects of operations promoting quality customer service and positive guest relations within the clinical areas via rounds and other feedback mechanisms

  • Monitors clinical areas for cleanliness and adequacy of supplies and oversee the proper use and accountability of all equipment

  • Remains familiar with and strives for compliance with standards for accreditation and certifications by external agencies (JCAHO, OSHA, etc)

  • Addresses disciplinary issues with employees and documents according to Medical Center guidelines

  • Participates in development, monitoring and evaluation of policies and procedures for all clinical areas

  • Addresses and resolves patient/family complaints

  • Monitors patient acuity and directs patient flow and reassignment of staff to promote prompt delivery of nursing care

  • Assesses the educational needs of staff and provides educational opportunities that promote competency

  • Performs periodic reviews of patient charges and nursing documentation

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in North Carolina or compact state licensure required

Work Experience

  • 3 years nursing experience required

  • 1 year management experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for the following patient categories:  infant (0-12 months), toddler (13-30 months), pre-schooler (31 months-5 years), school age (6-12 years), adolescent (13-18 years), adulthood (19-30 years), middle adulthood (31-65 years) and older adulthood (>65 years)

  • Positive interpersonal skills

  • Excellent people skills

  • Effective organizational, teaching and leadership skills

  • Knowledgeable of the physiological, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patients typically served

Physical Requirements

  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs

  • Visual acuity for observation of patients

  • Much standing, walking, bending and lifting with demonstrated good body mechanics

  • Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membranes, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials

  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
