Responsible for sitting with assigned patients and works with the nurse to assist with patient safety as well as offer stimuli to the patient. Responsible for communicating with every person involved in the patient’s care. Responsible for delivering customer service to the patient, staff and visitors. Utilizes crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Cares for the patient in a manner that promotes safety, protects rights and preserves dignity that is conducive to a therapeutic environment
Responds to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient needs to the appropriate person
Assists in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies which may include restraints
Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities
Promotes the patient’s right to privacy
Provides emotional support as appropriate
Alerts nursing staff regarding escalating behavior that requires intervention and calls for assistance as needed
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Psychology/social work training preferred
None
Skills and knowledge to conduct safe individual activities with the patients
Strong observation and intervention skills with the patients and family members
Proficient with interpersonal communication skills
Possess verbal communication skills to allow for calm communication with patient and the patient’s family members
Work involves a variety of activities including walking, standing and sitting
Ability to turn and lift patients
Ability to communicate and visually observe the patient required
Required Licenses and Certifications
