Supports administrative and clinical requirements of physicians and other licensed medical staff. Assists in obtaining patient vital signs, updates patients’ charts, compiles related statistical data and policy/procedure/practice, regulatory requirements, and JCAHO standards. Responsible for administering care to clinic patients under the supervision of the physician and other licensed medical staff.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Maintains patients’ rights, confidentiality, dignity, and well-being
Maintains an accurate, relevant record of patient care and patient contact per visit and per telephone
Collects and processes all point of care, lab, and pathology samples per CFVH policy
Performs quality and safety checks on all waived testing equipment and supplies per CFVHS policies
Performs patient education under the direction of the Provider
Administers and records treatments, dressing changes, medications, and therapies under the direction and order of the LIP.
Chaperones, sets up for, and assists providers in procedures and examinations as needed
Properly handles and prepares reusable instruments for return to Central Sterile Processing for sterilization
Disposes of biohazard and pharmaceutical waste per OSHA guidelines and per CFVH Policy
Maintains a clean patient care environment by following Infection Prevention Standards for between patient cleaning and terminal cleaning
Ensures appropriate supply stock and instrument supplies in designated areas
Other duties as assigned
Physician Office Practice Additional Job Functions:
Performs front desk reception to include greeting patients and scheduling appointments
Assists clerk/receptionist with ICD and CPT coding, input to computer for billing, insurance, and QA purposes
Coordinates and communicates with outside healthcare partners such as home health, hospice, DME companies, community paramedics, and ACO, to carry out the provider directed patient plan of care
Monitors Epic In Basket and responds to all messages in an appropriate time frame
Performs components of well visits or physicals as directed by the provider
Performs scheduled nursing visits as directed by the provider
Completes all required documentation for each patient visit prior to provider beginning visit
Performs High Level Disinfection according to CFVH policy and manufacturer’s instructions
Floats to other clinics as assigned
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Basic Life Support (BLS) required from the American Heart Association
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program with successful completion of a nationally recognized certification exam required. Acceptable organizations are:
CMA - American Association of Medical Assistants
RMA - American Medical Technologists
CMA(MEDCA) - Medical Career Assessments
RMA(ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants
CMA - National Association for Health Professionals
CCMA - National Healthcare Association
NRCMA - National Association for Health Professionals
1 year clinical experience in an outpatient clinical setting preferred
Recognizes life-threatening situations, responds, and activates emergency services
Effectively communicates with all customers, staff, and providers in-person and via phone, including greeting, identifying self by name and role, and returning calls in a timely manner
Must be able to see, hear, read, and have manual ability to use office and clinical equipment
Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
