Performs all procedures associated with Breast Imaging, following all requirements set forth by the ACR (American College of Radiology), Federal (FDA) and State Radiation Protection guidelines of the MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act).The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Performs the quality control and quality assurance activities as required by regulations
Demonstrates competency and efficiency in all breast imaging procedures
Fully competent to operate all related equipment and reports malfunctions immediately.
Maintains a safe environment to include but not limited to radiation exposure, infection control guidelines/Universal Precautions and general safety
Assesses the patient, reviews the chart or doctor’s orders, confirms the appropriate reason for the exam or pertinent patient condition or symptom and documents
Prepares the patient for the procedure, answers questions and instructs the patient in self-breast examination
Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access of the study by the radiologist and proper billing for services
Monitors the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals striving for continuous quality improvement
Performs QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality, and proper presentation state) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Associates degree required
ARRT (Radiography) and ARRT (Mammography) registered or
ARRT (Radiography) registered with Mammography registry eligible
MQSA initial requirements met with valid documentation
Registry eligible individuals must successfully pass the ARRT Mammography registry within 1 year of employment. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment
2 years experience as a Mammography Technologist in both screening and diagnostic setting preferred

Knowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for patients of all age groups
Demonstrates the desire to be actively involved as a representative from Radiology to the Breast Center Collaborative Group and participates in various community health projects related to Breast Care
Ability to communicate orally
Manual dexterity
Visual and auditory acuity
Mobility to assume awkward positions and respond to emergency situation
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to bend and lift 100 lbs and/or carry objects up to 50 lbs
Position may involve skin, eye mucous membrane, or parental contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
