About the InternshipThe Human Resources Intern will directly assist the Human Resources team with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruitment, and other HR assigned areas. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources can play in a non-profit setting and be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with the Program, Finance, and Philanthropy staff.
What You Will Learn
The importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management.
The use of HRIS system (Paycom) to complete employee life cycle transactions.
Generation of reports and data analysis.
The fundamentals of recruitment and talent acquisition, including posting positions, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and communicating with candidates.
How recruitment supports organizational strategy in a non-profit setting, from identifying staffing needs to creating a positive candidate experience.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, the intern must have:
Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest to work in Human Resources, or non-profit management/administrative fields
Reliable transportation
Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
Excellent customer service skills
Schedule:
10 hours per week, in-office

The Intern will receive academic credit for the internship, subject to the approval of the Intern’s academic institution. The Intern is responsible for ensuring that they meet the requirements for earning academic credit and for arranging such credit with their school.

Canine Companions is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities. We also offer facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings.
All our dogs and follow-up services are provided free of charge to clients in the U.S.
Canine Companions headquarters is located in Santa Rosa, California. We have seven training centers across the country, with locations in Northern California, Southern California, Florida, Ohio, Puget Sound (Seattle), New York and Texas.
