WHAT’S THE TEAM LIKE 

The Safety, Security, Compliance, and Emergency Response team ensures the safe and secure operation of Calgary International and Springbank Airports. This team plays a critical role in regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and operational assurance, directly impacting the airports’ efficiency and safety. Their work supports the strategic goals of the organization and ensures a safe environment for all stakeholders. 

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Review airfield construction project plans, permits, designs, and specifications, and ensure airfield construction projects comply with all regulations and standards by identifying and resolving regulatory issues, liaising with Transport Canada for necessary exemptions, and staying current with industry requirements to maintain the Airport Operating Certificate. 

  • Prepare, submit, and maintain regulatory documentation, collaborating with project teams and regulatory agencies. 

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, airport authorities, and stakeholders to ensure a compliant construction process, actively participate in compliance-related meetings and discussions, and address regulatory concerns raised by stakeholders. 

  • Stay current with regulatory changes (e.g., CARs, Transport Canada Advisory Circulars, Exemptions, and TP312), communicate updates and provide clear regulatory guidance to Crew and stakeholders, collaborate with other departments for holistic compliance monitoring, and share key compliance findings and reports with senior leadership and regulatory authorities. 

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, airport partners, and internal departments to resolve compliance issues and facilitate smooth operations. 

  • Establish and maintain systems to track compliance activities, and report key metrics to senior management and regulatory bodies. 

  • Respond to queries from tenants, the public, and Crew members, and assist with compliance-related budget and reporting tasks. 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING 

  • You’ll need to be eligible to obtain and maintain a RAIC, don’t worry – we’ll help you through this! For more details, check out: RAIC Program and Application Information 

  • 5+ years of experience in operational compliance within the aviation industry is required. 

  • Post-secondary education (minimum of a college or aviation related diploma) in a relevant discipline is required. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. 

  • Experience managing audits, inspections, or investigations related to aviation regulatory compliance. 

  • Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), Transport Canada’s TP312: Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices. 

  • As this position is considered safety-sensitive, candidates must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing as part of the hiring process. 

  • The ability to obtain and maintain an AVOP (Airside Vehicle Operators Permit) 

  • This role includes driving as part of its duties; therefore, candidates will be required to provide a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract as part of the hiring process. 

WHAT ADDITIONAL SKILLS ARE AN ASSET 

  • Bilingual in English and French 

  • SMS Certification 

  • Previous experience with QMS Management, Transport Canada’s TP312: Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices is an asset.
