The Opportunity:

CACI is looking for an experienced Spacecraft Battery Project Engineer to work with NASA's human-rated spacecraft battery systems in support of our Nation’s space exploration initiative at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This system engineering position involves insight/oversight of human-rated space vehicles specializing on battery and battery-related systems. This engineering position may also involve analysis of test data, comparison of test data against program requirements and assessment, design analysis, testing and integration, and technical oversight. The ideal candidate has a background space-rated battery domain. This engineering position is responsible for overseeing engineering projects from conception to completion including coordination with various functions, including engineering, procurement, and quality assurance, to deliver high-quality results. This position requires a self-starting, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must possess strong customer relationship skills, have a positive team-player attitude, and be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Additional assignments may involve segments of the full lifecycle of developing power systems including battery and charger systems Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate technical ideas in an effective manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of human-rated space vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Support space system projects related to Li-Ion batteries.
  • Review and oversight of system level requirements, integration, verification, validation, and certification.
  • Work with and coordinate with various stakeholders throughout NASA and private industry.
  • Contribute to the various NASA project lifecycle milestone reviews such as System Design Reviews (SDR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
  • Provide engineering guidance, review designs, ensure technical specifications are met, and manage technical interfaces.
  • Act as the primary point of contact, managing client expectations, communicating progress, and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure projects adhere to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and deliver regular project status reports to senior management and clients. Support Test and Verification (T&V) activities for the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Strategic Cell Reserve.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to U.S. Government facilities. 
  • B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials or other related engineering discipline. Minimum of 5-7 years of technical project engineering or systems engineering experience required.  Greater experience is valued.
  • Experience with leading and managing engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to scope, bridging technical engineering requirements with project management best practices to achieve organizational goals and client satisfaction. 
  • Excellent people skills able to facilitate meetings with various stakeholders. Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision. 
  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.  
  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

Desired: 

  • M.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials or other related engineering discipline.
  • Systems Engineering experience, especially involving the verification of requirements.
  • Experience with creative or alternative ways of verifying requirements is valued.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is a plus, particularly in the NASA JSC environment.
  • Experience with Simulink/MATLAB or other system level evaluation tools. Experience with mechanical design of batteries or battery systems.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$76,000 - 155,700 USD
