As an overarching goal, our newly established Japan Country Manager will lead and inspire our highly motivated sales team for activities to maintain our leading market position and endeavor new opportunities to get it even expanded. A customer centric and customer success driven approach is the key to success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the sales and service team in Japan to drive sustainable growth for the optics business.
  • Identify and evaluate new market opportunities and develop strategies to promote products in the Japanese spectroscopy market.
  • Formulate and execute sales strategies and operating plans aligned with both short- and long-term business objectives, ensuring team alignment and goal achievement.
  • Guide and advise the Bruker Optics team to ensure profitable growth and efficient sales and operations.
  • Support sales processes with key accounts in Japan, maintaining strong relationships.
  • Direct company strategy to achieve profitable growth and operational excellence.
  • Implement company policies and strategies effectively within the team.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the APAC Sales Director and German headquarters.
  • Establish and oversee robust operational planning and control systems.
  • Ensure operating objectives and performance standards are fully integrated and adopted by management and staff.
  • Monitor sales, operational, and financial performance against plans and budgets, regularly reporting to the APAC Sales Director.
  • Set and ensure achievement of performance goals, taking corrective actions as needed in collaboration with APAC leadership.
  • Provide timely updates on performance and market developments.
  • Maintain overall operational performance and accountability for all sales and operations within the company.
  • Act as a role model, fostering a high-performance culture within the team.
  • Take full accountability for sales figures and inspire the team to exceed expectations.
  • Serve as the main contact for key customers, business partners, and professional associations across the Bruker Optics portfolio.
  • Collaborate closely with business units and internal stakeholders to drive the go-to-market strategy for Japan.
  • Develop and implement local training programs to upskill the sales team.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and adapt strategies to maintain market leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and industry regulations.
  • Champion customer feedback initiatives to continuously improve product offerings and customer experience.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications

To be successful for this position, you should possess

  • Extensive technical expertise and experience in optical spectroscopy (FT-IR, Raman, and/or NIR) or related markets.
  • Strong knowledge of business economics and operations.
  • Multiple years of sales and management experience within optical spectroscopy or similar fields.
  • Proven leadership abilities, management experience, and capacity to motivate team members.
  • Results-driven, creative, and skilled in business development with the ability to interact with clients, staff, and senior management in both Japanese and English.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor market trends and adapt strategies to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in the Japanese market and relevant industry standards.
  • Strong relationship management skills for engaging with key customers, partners, and professional associations.
  • Track record of championing customer feedback initiatives and driving continuous improvement.
  • Cultural fluency and adaptability to foster a high-performance and innovative team environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders and global business units.
