Patient Transport - PRN/Variable Shifts- Battle Creek

The Patient Transport Specialist provides a comprehensive array of patient focused services. This position is responsible for lifting, standing, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and on gurneys. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 months related customer service work experience required.
BLS certification is required within first 90 days
• Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in the use of Teletracking and Spectra telephones is necessary.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven organization skills essential.
• Must have sound math, counting and analytical skills.
• Must be able to move quickly throughout the hospital on stat calls (zero pages).
• Must be friendly, positive, and professional when working with patients.
• Must be able to adapt to situations when transporting patients of all ages including children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
• Must possess basic computer skills for dispatching and 2-way radio communications.

Work which produces very high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. CRT work between 70 and 90 percent of the time, and work involving extremely close tolerances and considerable hand/eye coordination for sustained periods of time.
Job definitely requires high levels of strength and/or stamina to regularly lift weights up to 100 pounds and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
• Assist patients/family and visitors in navigating throughout the campus.
• Able to navigate patients throughout the campus efficiently and safely.
• Transfer patients from one surface or location to another.
• Assist patients in walking, sitting up and moving from one support device to another.
• Able to push and pull beds, stretchers, wheelchairs and rental beds while occupied and unoccupied across different surfaces.
• Lift, pull or operate heavy equipment including beds, IV poles, IV pumps, oxygen tanks, morgue carts, electric carts, wheel chairs.
• Knowledge of unit locations and procedures areas.
• Knowledge of Bronson policies.
• Knowledge of situation when assistance is required.
• Location of charts
• Knowledge of supply room locations
• Ability to contact nursing and support staff for information and assistance
• Ability to appropriately utilize equipment such as slider boards, oxygen tanks, computers, etc.
• Ability to use patient transport tracking system and P.E.M. phone system
• Able to handle and transfer medical equipment including Foley catheters with collection bags, chest tubes, monitors, etc.
• Effectively cleans equipment after patient use
• Documentation of activities in log book
• Maintain customer service standards
• Able to explain activities to patients and families
• Verify patient identification
• Retrieve needed supplies or linens from supply rooms
• Transport visitors between campuses
• Transfer expired patients to morgue
• Release bodies to funeral home directors
• Prepare and retrieve bodies for family viewing
• Respond to code zero pages
