  • Education Requirements:  

    B.S. or B.A. degree in human services, criminal justice or related field required; Master’s degree and/or training in forensic interviewing preferred 

    Other skills:  

    • Communication, Interpersonal, and Customer Relations skills 

    • Computer skills (excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) 

    • Basic math and Analytical skills 

    • Spelling skills 

    • Quality through demonstration of thoroughness and accuracy 

    • Dependability in following through on commitments Completes tasks as assigned or assists with creating an alternative option to ensure work is complete. 

    • Work which rarely produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue, i.e., less than 20 percent of the work time. 

    • The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weigh objects

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

    Forensic Interviewing 

    • Conduct forensic interviews with children using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive practices consistent with the Michigan Forensic Interview Protocol and National Children’s Alliance Standards.  

    • Modify interviewing approaches to meet the developmental, emotional, and cultural needs of each child. 

    • Capable of collaborating with ASL and interpretation service providers, while conducting interviews. 

    • Participate in pre- and post-interview case discussions with caregivers and MDT partners as directed. 

    • Use technology to record interviews and transfer the video to a DVD. 

    • Observe and provide peer review on forensic interviews when not assigned as the interviewer. 

    Scheduling & Case Coordination 

    • Assist with scheduling forensic interviews in coordination with the family, CAC staff, and MDT partners. 

    • Communicate scheduling information in a timely and professional manner, to ensure a timely and coordinated investigative response. 

    • Support the coordination of interview schedules, case reviews, and related activities to promote MDT collaboration. 

    Case Review & MDT Support 

    • Assist with identifying cases for discussion at Case Review Meetings. 

    • Prepare and organize materials for Case Review Meetings, including case summaries and relevant documentation. 

    • Participate in Case Review Meetings as assigned, and support follow-up documentation as needed. 

    Case Documentation & Records Management 

    • Establish and maintain a confidential file for each client at the time of the initial forensic interview. 

    • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely forensic interview notes and case documentation. 

    • Ensure case files are complete and organized when subpoenaed or requested by authorized agencies. 

    • Protect client privacy and confidentiality in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and organizational policies. 

    • Obtain and document case dispositions through communication with partner agencies, as available. 

    Court & Legal Responsibilities 

    • Prepare for testimony by reviewing interview documentation and case files as needed. 

    • Testify in court proceedings when subpoenaed or requested. 

    • Have flexibility with schedule, as subpoenas may require court testimony on days outside of workdays (can adjust SAS schedule accordingly). 

    Professional Development & Quality Improvement 

    • Maintain proficiency in forensic interviewing through ongoing education related to child development, trauma, and assessment. 

    • Participate in forensic interview debriefings, peer review, and quality assurance activities in accordance with NCA Standards. 

    • Stay informed of current best practices and emerging research in the field of forensic interviewing. 

    Organizational & Team Participation 

    • Participate in required organizational meetings, staff huddles, staff meetings, and training. 

    • Maintain effective working relationships with MDT partners and internal team members. 

    • Demonstrate professionalism and collaboration in all internal and external interactions. 

  • Professional Conduct & Compliance 

    • Represent the organization in a professional manner consistent with its mission, values, and customer service standards. 

    • Treats other partners with respect and professionalism, even at times when the team may disagree. 

    • Maintain working knowledge of applicable laws, ethical standards, and organizational policies and procedures. 

    • Adhere to all safety requirements and maintain a safe, respectful work environment. 

    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
