Position Summary

This position provides Employee & Labor Relations and People Consultant support to multiple company locations in Spain and Portugal. This dual-role position, designed for a dynamic collaborator who will be distributing the role responsibilities as follow:

  • Senior Manager, Employee & Labor Relations (50%) - The incumbent will combine technical acumen and critical thinking with deep expertise in employee and labor relations, working across cross-functional teams and driving operational execution. Provide expert guidance and hands-on support for complex employee relations matters across multiple markets. The role holder will build strong relationships between people leaders, employees, HR Business Partners, Law Group, the Office of Compliance and Ethics, Works Councils and Unions. Will also assist on the HR policy management. Partner with key stakeholders to support the labor relations agenda as well as support Regional Employee & Relations Leaders to design and implement related training to ensure continuous education of global stakeholders and to upskill managers of people.

  • People Consultant (50%) – The incumbent will serve as a trusted advisor for managers, providing expert guidance on complex workforce management and HR policy matters. Drive proactively strategies to upskill new and experienced People Managers, utilizing data-driven insights to identify and execute people-focused initiatives aligned with local business objectives. The role holder will ensure workforce and leadership understanding of People processes, support the development and integration of a unified company culture, and drive organizational performance through capability building and engagement efforts. Additional duties involve coordinating seamless delivery of global HR priorities and processes, supporting and implementing change management plans, and partnering with Centers of Excellence to facilitate the rollout of global programs. The position also monitors compliance with company policies, maintains up-to-date knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese employment legislations, and fosters collaborative improvement and consistency within the HR function.

Key Responsibilities
Senior Manager, Employee & Labor Relations (50%)

  • Manage cases involving performance management, behavioral concerns, disciplinary actions, and investigations into discrimination or harassment claims.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to resolve workplace conflicts, supporting employees, managers, and leaders in alignment with company policies and legal standards.
  • Lead investigations and ensure consistent application of company policies and employment laws, as well as making recommendations and implementing resolutions when applicable.
  • Consult with inside or outside counsel and/or labor consultants as necessary.
  • Develop effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the organization.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality throughout conversations and investigations.  Manage highly confidential human resources information and exercise sound judgment in handling or working with confidential data and situations
  • To operate professionally and with integrity. Demonstrating excellent people skills, and good local knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Partner with Law department to, research policies/practices, create and gather documentation, make recommendations, and implement resolutions when applicable.
  • Partner with the Local HR Business Partners and key stakeholders to support the labor relations agenda by ensuring appropriate sharing of information, consultation and negotiation takes place according to the legal requirements in the appropriate market.
  • Prepare and facilitate all WC meetings.
  • Create and maintain documentation to guide labor relations activity. Document all activity, decisions and agreements with works councils and Unions.
  • Support the Labor Relation leaders to design and implement LR training to ensure continuous education of global stakeholders and to upskill the team.
  • Prepare and present reports on employee and labor relations activities and trends.
  • Analyze ER and LR data to identify patterns and recommend proactive measures to address potential issues.
  • Ensure that the Company operates within current and local employment law to maintain reputation as a good employer.
  • Maintain excellent business acumen while maintaining objectivity in work.
  • Engage with all levels of the organization, including hourly and salaried workforce, often virtually.
  • Assisting the Director, Employee & Labor Relations in developing and updating HR policies that align with global standards while accommodating local legal and cultural requirements. 
  • Will work onsite and with remote locations frequently virtually (Phone and Teams). And may require a 10–15% of travel.

People Consultant (50%)

  • Be a trusted advisor to managers with guidance and support for more complex workforce management and HR policy advice.
  • Proactively plan and implement strategies to upskill new People Managers and provide support and counsel to experience People Managers when navigating through various HR processes and issues.
  • Use discretion, sound judgement and take decisions as appropriate, to determine the best method of resolution.
  • In support of the HRBP, use diagnostics/data and understanding of business needs to identify proactive HR interventions and people practices in support of local business objectives.
  • Ensure that the workforce and leaders understand People processes.
  • Partner and support business groups to enable the development and implementation of One BMS culture for the site and across functions.
  • Support the HRBP in engagement. Build capabilities to drive organizational performance through individuals and managers as well as identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Coordinate and ensure seamless end-to-end delivery of global priorities and life cycle processes- working with the PS teams, leading and advocating for improvements that enhance customer experience.
  • Work with the HRBP to support and drive Change Management plans for incoming and settling functions and capabilities, and in support of initiative and evolutions. May participate in the roll out of change plans in partnership with business leaders to prepare, equip and support people to successfully adopt change in order to drive organizational success.
  • Partners with global Centres of Excellence (COE) in the rolling out of global programs and processes to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Monitoring compliance with all applicable BMS policies and seeking appropriate counsel. Driving organizational commitment to leverage diversity to our competitive advantage.
  • Has a deep understanding of Spanish employment legislation to ensure that processes and policies adhere to the changing legislation and work with COE and PS colleagues when legislation might require some changes.
  • Work collaboratively within HR colleagues to share ideas, ownership, and accountability for driving improvements and consistency of execution for key HR processes, across Spain and Portugal.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of HR business partner, Labor Relations, or Employee Relations experience in Spain (ideally in Portugal too).
  • Fluent in English and Spanish. Portuguese is a plus.
  • Experience with locally relevant employee representative bodies, works councils and/or trade unions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
  • Extensive experience as an HR business partner or HR Generalist with strong leadership skills and experience working with multi-functional business teams.
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with senior management levels to impact and influence decision making.
  • Proven Business & Analytical Acumen along with problem solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities, root cause analyses and the ability to successfully manage multiple competing tasks and priorities.
