About our team 
The remit of the Legal Counsel team entails a whole of organisation view in the proactive management and oversight of legal risks and strategic support across the organisation. The team monitors and manages BCE’s legal risk and exposure by providing strategic and timely legal advice and advocacy across a wide range of complex and sensitive legal matters, to support the Executive Director, Executives, Heads, BCEO Managers, Senior Leaders and Principals attached to BCE schools and BCEO functional areas.

Summary

The Legal team at Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) is seeking an experienced Solicitor – Legal Counsel to provide high‑quality, specialist legal advice across a wide range of matters affecting our schools and offices. In this role, you will support the Senior Legal Counsel in delivering timely, accurate and practical legal services, contributing to effective risk management and informed decision‑making across the organisation. You will play a key part in advising on complex issues, preparing legal documentation, supporting litigation processes, and strengthening the systems and practices that enable the Legal team to deliver exceptional service.  Specific demonstrated experience in Personal Injury, Discrimination and/or Family Law will be considered favourably.

About the opportunity

In this position you will:   

  • Provide high‑quality, timely legal advice and representation across complex and sensitive matters.
  • Research and analyse legal issues, case facts, legislation and case law to inform recommendations.
  • Support delivery of specialised advice across a variety of areas with a focus on Personal Injury, National Redress Family Law and Discrimination. Other areas will include Commercial,  Property, Privacy and Intellectual Property law.
  • Draft and review a wide range of legal documents including contracts, agreements, correspondence and court documents.
  • Prepare matters for conferences, hearings and other litigation‑related requirements.
  • Monitor key legislative and case law developments and maintain relevant knowledge databases.
  • Maintain accurate and current case files using BCE’s legal systems and processes.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to support consistent and effective legal practice.  

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:    

  • Demonstrated experience delivering professional legal advice across a variety of practice areas, particularly Personal Injury/NRS, Family Law and Discrimination.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical, solutions‑focused advice.
  • High‑level written communication skills with experience drafting precise and accurate legal documents.
  • Worked with multiple stakeholders and leadership teams in your area of specialty.  
  • Bachelor of Laws and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • A current Queensland Law Society Practising Certificate (Solicitor).

 

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements:  

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment. 
  • Ability to obtain a National Criminal History check prior to commencement.
