About our school 
St Mary’s Primary School is situated in the historic Queensland provincial city of Ipswich, 45 km from Brisbane CBD. Our beautiful, historical architecture of sandstone buildings are a visual reminder that quality Catholic Education has been delivered on our site for over 150 years We are a co-educational school with a current enrolment of 575 students from Prep through to Year 6. The dedicated teaching and support staff endeavour to provide high quality, inclusive education by providing engaging learning activities that support not only students' academic advancement but also their personal growth based upon a Catholic Christian tradition. Enhance student wellbeing and learning with a focus on fostering the education, development, mental health and wellbeing of all students.

  • Location: St Marys Primary - Ipswich (P)
  • Start date: Commencing January, 2026
  • Days of hours: 5 days per week 
  • Salary: $103,397 - $144,242 + super
  • Status: Fixed-term (Maternity Leave replacement)

About the opportunity

In this position you will be responsible for: 

  • Facilitate proactive and preventative practices and initiatives for the holistic development, mental health and wellbeing of students 
  • Manage counselling and consulting services for students 
  • Provide psycho-educational and other assessments 
  • Ensure BCE protocols and quality processes are implemented 
  • Maintain standards of practice 
  • Apply guidance counselling skills through direct and indirect processes and through systemic, whole-school, and individual interventions 
  • Participate in regular individual and group supervision and mentoring activities for clinical and technical supervision. 

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including: 

  • Successful experience as a Guidance Counsellor in an educational setting with a focus on prevention, intervention and student learning 
  • Experience in identifying and developing activities to address academic and life career development of students 
  • Experience in the administration, interpretation and report writing for psycho-educational assessments 
  • Experience in providing support and leadership in response to student protection issues, critical incidents and risk management 
  • Collaboration skills and the ability to work in a team environment 
  • For this position you are not required to be Catholic. 

 

Eligibility and Safeguarding requirements: 

  • Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment 
  • Full registration as a Teacher with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) plus completed Masters in school guidance and counselling, and/or 
  • Full registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
