We are seeking an accomplished and dynamic Health and Safety Manager to join our Operations team. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with Irish statutory requirements and industry best practices. This is a stand-alone role requiring direct operational experience, with regular presence across our three branches. You will work very closely with branch managers, the Transport team, and external vendors to deliver training, ensure compliance, and drive safety performance. The role requires the ability to influence management, make independent decisions, and operate effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

Reports to: Operations Director

Team: Individual contributor role, highly collaborative across Branch Managers, Transport, HR, and other internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive thorough investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented. Actively work to reduce Injuries on Duty (IODs) and address current open incidents.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with the company’s Safety Statement and all associated health and safety policies, in line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and other relevant regulations.
  • Lead systematic identification of hazards and conduct comprehensive risk assessments across all branches, implementing effective control measures to reduce risks.
  • Implement and monitor performance metrics for compliance and safety outcomes, reporting regularly to senior leadership.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with branch managers to ensure operational adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Influence and guide the management team to achieve safety objectives and embed a proactive safety culture.
  • Partner with the Transport team to address safety risks specific to cash-in-transit operations.
  • Deliver health and safety training programs and inductions for employees and contractors, or coordinate these through external vendors as appropriate.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external stakeholders, including the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), insurers, and legal advisors.

Performance Metrics & Accountability

  • Reduce the number and severity of Injuries on Duty (IODs).
  • Increase overall compliance with safety standards and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection results, certifications, and reports for management and regulatory bodies.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety systems, processes, and culture across all operations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency through improved safety practices and training initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date on developments in Irish health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a dedicated health and safety role with direct operational experience across multiple sites, preferably in a complex or large organisation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards (e.g., Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, ISO 45001).
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH (CMIOSH or equivalent), or similar.
  • Leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to drive a positive safety culture across operational teams.
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively with management and operational teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant IT systems.
  • Flexible, responsive, and able to act decisively in emergency situations.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic operational environment.
  • Preferred: 2–3 years of HR management experience, adding value in workforce engagement, training, and policy enforcement.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel domestically to all three branches in Ireland.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Stand-alone role; collaboration with multiple teams and stakeholders across the organisation is essential.
  • Experience managing external vendors for training and compliance initiatives.
