About this role

Job Title: School Psychologist Intern

Purpose:Under general supervision of a qualified school psychologist supervisor, the school psychologist intern assists in ensuring that Bridges Preparatory's vision and mission are achieved through the provision of a wide range of services to promote academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health functioning for students with and without disabilities. The school psychologist intern, working in close collaboration with the school psychologist supervisor, will coordinate and consult with parents, teachers, administrators, external agencies, multidisciplinary IEP teams, Section 504 teams, and MTSS/intervention teams to select and monitor interventions, develop appropriate instructional goals and objectives, recommend accommodations and/or modifications, and assist in the planning of appropriate educational programming to meet the needs of students.

Qualifications:

  • Requires enrollment in an accredited graduate school psychology program and approval of their university program for the internship.
  • Completion of all requirements defined by the intern's school psychology training program must be satisfied such that the training program affirms the intern is ready for internship.
  • Certification as a School Psychologist I (Internship certificate) by the S.C. Department of Education before the start date of the internship.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:These essential job functions and responsibilities are performed under the supervision of the Bridges Preparatory certified school psychologist:

  • Coordinates and implements, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility of students for special education services;
  • Communicates evaluation results to parents and teachers;
  • Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, administrators and outside personnel to facilitate students' learning and promote social-emotional adjustment through direct or indirect intervention strategies;
  • Makes recommendations for instructional programming based on theoretical models of school psychology;
  • Serves as an advocate for students;
  • Provides individual and group counseling of students;
  • Observes students in the classroom setting;
  • Provides parent and teacher consultation to address management of student progress in academics, behavior, communication and adaptive skills;
  • Participates in IEP, Section 504, and MTSS/intervention meetings.
  • Provides and/or assists in providing in-service training for district/school personnel and service providers.
  • With supervisor, assesses current skills and develops a plan for development of all appropriate skills needed for competent school psychology practice.
  • Attends scheduled supervision sessions and seeks supervision at other times as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of requirements of the training institution/university regarding internship and arranges for completion of these requirements.
