About this role

Your Role 

The Internal Account Manager: Water Treatment is responsible for managing and growing a defined portfolio of category ‘C’ customers within the water treatment segment. The role focuses on maintaining and expanding existing customer relationships, improving margin and profitability, supporting effective accounts receivable management, and ensuring disciplined sales execution. The position plays a critical role in delivering consistent service, accurate pricing, and reliable reporting while supporting the broader commercial and product strategy.

Responsibilities 

  • Manage a portfolio of category ‘C’ water treatment customers, ensuring consistent service delivery and account retention.
  • Maintain and grow existing business by broadening the product range supplied to customers.
  • Proactively source and develop new business opportunities within the assigned customer base.
  • Provide proactive support to Credit Controllers to enable effective accounts receivable (AR) management.
  • Prepare and issue quotations in line with approved pricelists and Recommended Operating Prices (ROPs).
  • Achieve agreed gross profit (GP) targets through disciplined pricing and margin management.
  • Identify opportunities to increase margins and overall profitability within accounts.
  • Develop and maintain strong product and customer knowledge to support effective selling and advisory conversations.
  • Complete weekly sales reporting and ensure accurate CRM maintenance.
  • Stay up to date with product training, specifications, and applications relevant to water treatment.
  • Conduct customer profiling to support targeted selling and account planning.
  • Advise the Product team on forecasting customer demand and future product requirements.
  • Process tender requests in collaboration with Product Managers.
  • Maintain sales conditions and ensure pricing is correctly uploaded and maintained within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) standards.

Your Profile 

A detail-oriented professional with experience in customer account management. Strong focus on service excellence, margin optimisation, and compliance, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a structured environment.

Skills 

  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Solid commercial awareness with a focus on margin and profitability.
  • Attention to detail with strong administrative and reporting discipline.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer accounts and priorities effectively.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using CRM systems (SAP knowledge is an advantage).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Credit, Product, and Sales teams

Experience 

  • 3–5 years’ experience in internal sales, account management, or customer support within chemical distribution, water treatment, or a related industry.
  • Proven experience managing customer portfolios and supporting sales targets.
  • Exposure to pricing, margin management, and tender processing is advantageous.

Education 

  • Matric
  • Degree/Diploma/National certificate in business administration/ Sales & Marketing preferred.
  • Commercial or business-related training will be beneficial.
