TITLE:  YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL 

DEPARTMENT:  Programs 

SUPERVISOR:Club Director   

STATUS: Part-time, Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is an integralpart of the program team. This position is a perfect fit for someone looking to take a first step intheir career to work with youth in a academic, athletic, and/or artistic setting.With the priority of working with youth during program hours, the personwho fills this position will alsobe responsible forthe items listed below. 

Experience or interest in arts or creative programming preferred.

Location: Thomson 

Hours: M-F 2-7 PM

KEY ROLES & ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Establish weekly/monthly programs calendar consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Develop a schedule of programs that will be presented at the site for the week and month and keep staff notebook updated using the youth development report form for each activity conducted.
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of programs activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas.
  • Create an environment that promotes and stimulates program participation.
  • Register new members andparticipatein their club orientation.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Effectively implement and administer programs,serviceand activities for drop-in members.
  • Monitor services and activities to ensurethe safetyof members and maintain the appearance of the facility.
  • Ensure the evaluation of the programs on a continual basis and ensure programs/activities respond to members’ needs.
  • Mayparticipatein special programs and/or events.
  • Participate as part of a team to run quality programs byhelpingwhere needed or directed, which may include driving the Club van.  

RELATIONSHIPS 

  • Internal:Maintainsclose, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues,explainor interpret guidelines/instructions.
  • External:Maintainscontact as needed with external community groups, schools, members'parentsand others toassistin resolving problems.

EDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS& SKILLS 

  • High School Diploma or GEDrequired
  • Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to minimumof 2 years
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Ability to handle interactions with the public
  • Knowledge of computer and data entry
  • Ability to providescience and technologyprograms for children ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-18.This position requires managing a group of students while in the program area in addition to assigning tasks to volunteers as indicated on each lesson plan.

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS 

Daily contact with club staff, club and teen center members, outside organizations and individuals to plan, coordinate and deliver programs. Normal internal office environment. Travel to special events and field trips may be required. Must be able to work daily afternoon/evening hours. Occasional weekend hours may be required to accomplish objectives. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighingin excess of25lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion.
