More Than an Internship — A Path Into Hotel Leadership 

Looking for more than a typical hospitality internship? The Big Sky Resort Hospitality Management Internship is a hands-on, Manager-in-Training experience designed for students who want real responsibility, real mentorship, and a clear pathway into hotel management — all while living and working in one of Montana’s most iconic mountain destinations. 

 

This immersive program is tailored for undergraduate and recent graduate students who are eager to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world hotel operations. Interns work alongside experienced hospitality professionals, gain exposure across multiple departments, and develop the leadership skills needed to succeed in a competitive industry.

Responsibilities

As a Hospitality Management Intern, you’ll actively participate in daily hotel operations while building a strong foundation in leadership and guest service. 

  • Participate in day-to-day operations across assigned hotel departments 
  • Spend 3.5 weeks as a Front Desk Associate at one of Big Sky Resort’s premier hotels: 
    • Huntley Lodge (3-star) 
    • Summit Hotel (4-star) 
    • Village Center Hotel (4-star) 
  • Complete 6 weeks of rotational experience in one or two specialized departments of your choice (3 weeks per department), such as: 
    • At Your Service
    • Concierge
    • Bell Staff
    • Housekeeping
  • Shadow an Assistant General Manager or hotel leader for 3.5 weeks, gaining firsthand exposure to leadership decision-making and hotel management responsibilities 
  • Complete a capstone project that reflects your learning, insights, and professional growth throughout the internship

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Hospitality, Recreation, Tourism, or a related field 
  • Strong interest in building a long-term career in hotel or resort management 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving 
  • Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment 
  • Ability to commit to the full duration and requirements of the internship program
